Seen as the world will be electric in a few years what about crashes. The sockets in your house run phase 2 electricity, the ones in these electric cars are phase 3. What about the fire brigade cutting the victims out of cars. If they cut the wrong part. Everyone dies:eek:
I suppose they will have to be re-trained?

The sockets in your house are single phase.

The output from the battery or fuel cell in the vehicle is always DC power. Its very east to convert DC back to 3 phase using power electronics...

Ummmm that's why god invented fuses and emergency disconnects.

The battery pack would be many times more stable than a full tank of petrol...

The batteries used in electric vehicles are not "wet" led acid batteries, so are much safer that your traditional car battery.

its going to take around 83%* explosions out of tv and film, which is a pity.

    picture this:
car chase, the boot is getting peppered with machine gun fire.
shooters get smart and aim for petrol tank and proceed to empty a clip or two to no effect.
shooter exclaims "sheet, eets a ****in preeus!"

    *fabricated statistics ftw

Toyota do training presentations on the Prius to the fire services. I'm sure other manafacturers have similar policies when an alternative energy car is brought out.

Running a car off 12 volts? Is that possible?

@javaboy, so maybe people will be fried after all!

I don't think i said run it off 12V, the losses would be too high... Also cable & power semi conductors would be very large...

It would be more likely to use a battery pack operating some where in the range of 300V -> 600V

An absolutely full tank of petrol is very stable according to Mythbusters.

Bullets would not ignite a petrol tank in real life.
