    Hi,
Just curious as to this part of GE. If you look at this page http://www.geae.com/services/finance/engineleasing/index.html and read the "Engine leasing overview" paragraph you will see that it says they lease Rolls royce, Pratt and Whitney & IAE. Are these companies not GE's competitors?

Business is business. Engine leasing is only a small part of the GE overall portfolio. It's a bit of a specialised business. If they didn't offer a selection of engines their competitors would. In any case, they wouldn't necessarily be offering brand new engines. Mostly refurbished engines which were sourced on the open market. So they wouldn't really be competing with their engine manufacturing partner. If a customer is flying an aircraft with a Rolls Royce engine. They won't be needing a GE engine as a spare. On the other hand if they needed a GE engine. They probably wouldn't be interested in a brand new one.

There is a lot of money to be made in the business, so it's worthwhile. Engines too in theory never wear out. Most engines after a few years have little or nothing of the original. In fact some modular engines only have their data plate left of the original. So they can go for the life of the engine type.

Ireland has at least one engine leasing company, maybe more.
