Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Soccer Forum Awards 2008?

I hereby propose the idea of the Boards.ie Soccer Forum Awards 2008.

Basically a few light hearted awards in various categories that best sum up the forum.

A while ago such a thing may not have possible due to the amount of blatant muppets there were posting but all that has died down and there's a really good community feel to the place.

Now it won't work if people are going to get offended if they are put up for a particular award so I'll attach a poll to this thread to gauge some opinions.

Examples of awards titles could be -

'Liverpool Fan Boy Of The Year' :P

The 'Matt Holland Award' for poster who never misses a thread.

'The John Delaney Perpetual Trophy' for best LOI fan boy

'The Steve Staunton Award' for the poster that makes you go 'wtf?'.

'The Arsene Wenger Award' for the poster with the most well thought out and concise posts.

'The Jimmy Bullard Award' for the poster that makes you lol.

and possibly 'The Brian Barwick Award' for overlord/mod of the year.

    Thoughts?

    Good idea.

Could we also have the "Warren Barton Award" for the poster you'd most like to hit over the head with a blunt instrument? :D

    Lol very good.

It would be good if people who are against it could say why. I see one person has voted no so far and there will be more.

It should be: "The Alex Ferguson Award for Biggest Sh!t Stirrer"

Although the "Bill O" would be a great nick name!

The John Terry award for most disastrous error in a post :pac:

The Liverpool FC award for most optimistic poster! This will be your year Mr Alan, don't worry :D

The Paul McShane award for most consistently retarded poster on the forum. This would be another for esteban :(

    Great idea Xavi!!!

Naturally enough, I expect a few awards my way, so I can make a loutish Shane Lynch style acceptance speech.

Surely there should be a post of the year that is exclusive to Soccer. Perhaps it culd be called the 'Zidane'.

Well if the idea gets the go ahead I'd be thinking of a timeline like this -

November ? to 15 - Award categories decided upon

November 16 to 30 - Nominees put forward

    December 1 to 21 - Voting

    December 24 - Results/Awards announced

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,598 ✭✭✭joe316

    Within reason I suppose.

Stuff like 'Sorest Loser' or 'Biggest Wanker' would be a no, no I'd imagine.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,677 ✭✭✭Chong

Ah no maybe one category, Worst Soccer Poster of the year thats all.

Could get very, very bitchy though. What constitutes the worst poster? It'll just end up going to someone who doesn't like Liverpool/United/the LOI, not because of the quality of their posts, but because they go against the status quo.

Basically ntlbell would be a shoe in.

How about a Terry Wogan award for the poster who has forgotten they are Irish - the heads who moan about threads being opened about domestic and local football? ;)

I think Jermaine Jenas or Ashley Cole would be better candidates for that....

Nah that'd be way to harsh on anyone postng in this forum, if i was ever nominated for an award called the Ashley Cole I may just have to kill myself.

No Jermaine Jenas is one of the moaniest players in the League. Something could happen 60 yards away and he'll sprint over to get involved.
Kolo used to do this aswell and it really annoyed me but he's stopped now for the most part, Thank God.
