Anyone know a way of replacing the headlights without taking out the whole light unit??

There is no way, but they come out pretty easily. What problem are you having exactly? I have a C-Max and have replaced bulbs quite often.

No, but it should be very easy to take out the light unit. Unplug electrical connector from the rear, remove two clips and just lift it out of the car. 2 minute job tbh.

Its easy, just take out the screw on top and at the back of the headlamp they are 2 clips. Push the down and out she comes. No more halfords!
