    Cervical cancer is caused by a virus. The vaccine is to protect against the virus, so theoretically people shouldn't go on and get the cancer.

    any chance this drug being new that its ok to hold off, to see how it goes elsewhere
    Assuming it's Gardasil that was to be used, it's been in use for over 2 years. An earlier vaccine against a more limited range of subtypes of HPV has been in use for longer. Waiting 'to see how it goes' isn't practical since the vaccine has to be administered before the onset of sexual activity, but cervical cancer occurs mainly between the ages of 25 and 40.
