It's still 56-40 on CNN, with 4 seats undecided. Democrats need all 4 seats if they want to avoid the filibuster.

Looks like the republicans will definitly get Georgia, also Alaska and Oregon with Minnosota tied.

    No supermajority this time round.

    The 4:

MN: Franken(D) is 600 votes behind so there will be an automatic recount
GA: Chambliss(R) did not get 51% of the vote(there was a Libertarian who got 4%) so I heard there will be a run-off vote in a few weeks
OR: Smith(R) is leading 48%-46% with 75% of the votes counted
AL: Stevens(R) is leading by 4000 votes so it looks like he will be reelected.

It will be interesting in two years when a bunch of older Senators will be retiring.

Don't give up hope for Stevams's defeat yet! 40,000 absentee ballots have yet to be counted in Alaska.

I think Smith in Oregon will lose and Coleman in Minnesota will win. They're both quite good moderate republicans but if I had to choose one I'd want Smith to hold....

Being a criminal doesn't bar someone from serving as a Senator. If he wins the election, the Senate, itself, would have to boot him out of the Senate. If they booted him out (or if Stevens resigned during the process), then Palin could probably replace him with someone else. Each state is different, but most allow the governor to appoint at least a temporary replacement, either to serve out the old Senator's term or until a special election can be held.

Georgia will probably go to a run-off. Chambliss will win, as Martin will not benefit from the enormous Democrat turnout that the Obama ticket brought out.

Folks, it's not a bad thing for the Dems to have <60 seats. With a super-majority, they could actually pursue a fairly hard left agenda. Less than the magic 60 means they will be pinned to a more centrist stance.
