Indeed, especially that it still continues in Western areas recently drowned by floods and demanding all manner of Government aid!

The Route Selection Report was published on the N6 Galway City Transport Project website two weeks ago, not sure if it's new or not to say there was no post here about it.

    Here it is anyway: http://www.n6galwaycity.ie/phase-2/route-selection-report/

They call it the Galway Transport Project but there is nothing in there apart from the new road that I can see. We absolutely must include a conversion of the existing bypass to BRT.

"The Outer Bypass plan got rejected so lets relaunch it under a different name and see how that goes"

Seems to be working pretty well so far.

Feedback is being sought for the latest design from the River Corrib to the N84 junction:

Incredibly slow progress. An update every three months.

    From the website

    Phase 4

Phase 4 has commenced. In the current project programme the planning application documents (Environmental Impact Statement and Compulsory Purchase Order) will be ready for publication by the end of Q3 2016.

Which isnt far away, but hard to see given the Deisgn is still going on and the key corrib crossing section hasnt been fleshed out yet. I wonder will NUIG take the money and /or object. Biased here but it would be a great shame if the city were to lose probably its own proper parkland/recreational amenity which has been put together by the college but is open to all.

I thought this project was being held up in court, don't we have to wait for that too?

Oof. Whilst the mainline will be freeflow that Coolagh Junction off the old road is going to be a disaster if its just a signallised junction. Would be a bad decision to remove the original grade separation that that had.

It could be worse, but it could be better! :):(

Agreed, if it's done as freeflow from the start, we'll just have to redo it in 10 years

What do these designs mean in practice ? is there a tunnel aspect to it at the racecourse? apologies have zero spatial skills...

Yes, the new N6 will be tunnelled under the racecourse at Ballybrit.

Will the racecourse have to close for works, how long will the tunnel be

Not too long but they'd build it using cut-and-cover which would require digging up a lot of the racecourse so it'll have to close.

Surely a few houses should be ahead of this.

Can't build any more houses in Galway unless there's a way of getting to them that doesn't involve spending an hour sitting in traffic on the existing N6

Don't build them in Galway. Plenty of other areas need houses if the traffic is too bad in Galway.

No, this is essential for the development of the city, and we need to concentrate on developing our regional cities as attractive places to live and work along side Dublin.

Traffic is not inevitable, why aren't new builds located centrally instead of being randomly scattered all over the place? No need for any new traffic to be generated.

Apparently the oral hearing for this will not be until very late 2017. However long after that for a decision is anyone's guess. ABP held an oral hearing into the proposed harbour/port extension in January 2015 and still haven't given a decision. I think Galway will be a while waiting for a bypass. Maybe they could crack on with improving public transport in the meantime...?

Any source for this. Is the project still on track? They were to publish the phase 4 document by end of this month http://www.n6galwaycity.ie/phase-4/phase-4/. Is the next stage after phase 4 the application to ABP and an oral hearing ?
