Hi there, would welcome any advice.

We have a 3 year old Baxi gas boiler. Plumber that installed it was recommended by local plumbing shop but has since gone out of biz. We have a 2 storey house, whole house was on one heating circuit and thermostat.

Last Nov (I've posted about this before) we had some work done in the house, changed radiators, and put the house on two heating circuits, upstairs and downstairs. The plumber who did this was recommended by the same shop, however, was a complete cowboy and every plumbing joint he did leaked within a week of him leaving
    Since then
    a) the boiler doesn't fire up when the valve is switched to 'automatic' it has to be on manual all the time
    b) therefore the timer doesn't work (we have replaced the timer and it makes no difference)
    c) the thermostats don't work
    d) one rad downstairs is on all the time
    e) the boiler itself is making a very odd noise like grinding metal about every 40 minutes or so (quite loud)

We are not sure whether to call out a plumber, an electrician or a Baxi service person?

In terms of calling out a plumber we are of course reticent having had someone unreliable already.

Any advice on what to do and if anyone can recommend a reliable person please pm me?

We are near Deansgrange in South Dublin.

    Thanks in advance

Is the boiler a Baxi System boiler ?
It's about three foot tall ,with a door that flaps out at the end.

You should get the system treated ,it sounds like theres a lot of dirt in it.
The heat exchanger on that model ,is notorious for making noises when the system is dirty.

A registered gas installer would be able to sort out anything for you. Provided things aren't gone beyond repair.

    With regards to your wiring.

Sometimes it's the actuator that powers the boiler ,this is actually the best way to wire. But it means your boiler won't work if the actuator is faulty.

    Thanks 311.

It sounds like we need a gas installer and an electrician so?

Would 'any' electrician be able to do it or should it be a specialist?
