    Hi Guys,

We were just looking for some advice. We bought a home via the afforable housing in what is being described as " one of Portlaoises most exclusive estates" ...however nothing couold be further from the truth. Our home has been vandalised over and over again by what i can only describe as scum! Last night when we got home we found that our phone line and sky connection wires had been pulled out of the wall ( were an end terrace house) they pulled all the doors off the gas meter etc
I was just wondering what is our options here? Im going to call the council and ask them what they can do but can they buy the house back from us so we can move out? We can't take this anymore. the rest of the estate is very clean and quiet its just our road were the houses have become afforable and social housing by the CoCo.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks ,
    Schec

Its a hazard whenever you buy a new house, and is in no means limited to the Affordable or Social Housing.....
If you have a look around this forum, you'll find quite a few people in similar situations.

In short- you need to document the damage that is happening- preferably irrevocably- this might mean installing a tamper proof camera system to protect your property. Once you have clearcut evidence as to who is causing the damage- you have a choice of approaching the parents directly, or via the Gardai. The Gardai in Portlaoise are decent and don't put up with any crap- even if you go to them for advice, they'll give you very good pointers.

Re: selling the house- you are free to sell the house- however it would have to be sold on the open market for whatever you can achieve, and the clawback payable to the council would have to be satisfied. You would have exhausted your First Time Buyer status, and also be ineligible to apply for the Affordable Housing or Social Housing schemes again.

Personally I'd pop into the local barracks and organise to have a chat with their community liaison officer- it could be that might have some effect?
