    It would have to be lodged into an account as most F/x drafts are crossed account payee only.

    You have to get an international one if you are sending a draft to another euro country, you can't send an "irish" draft/cheque as it will have to be sent for collection (if the foreign bank even accept it) and rack up major charges, not to mention delays in the person getting their funds. People often make the mistake of sending one of their own cheques abroad expecting that it will be ok because its the same currency, but it doesn't work that way unfortunately.
