    Is it "bad" for you?

In the context of being on a high protein, low carb type diet where I'm trying to cut out crappy food and lots of sugar etc.

The only thing I can see as potentially bad is the mayo .. but is this really bad?

    Thanks

Some of the ingredients in mayonnaise; the carrots, cabbage, eggs and vinegar are OK, but then you've got the vegetable oil which isn't healthy at all.

All vegetable oils (except olive oil) are unique in the fact that they are incredibly high in Omega 6. Which we all get too much of in our diet. Omega 6 causes inflammation and has been implicated in the development of several cancers.

A nutritionist once told me that he left a tub of flora in a shed for a month, not a fly or worm, maggot or rat had touched it, which led him to think 'Are we the only species stupid enough to eat this?' Traditional diets are different all over the world but none of them include the vast quantities of Omega 6 fats that is consumed in a western diet.

This really is a shame, because I love mayonnaise. I tried to make some with olive oil, but the results were not great.

Weight loss wise it won't impact you but for the sake of your health it's best to avoid.

It's really just about getting something to spice up or wet a dry salad. There's only so much Balsamic dressing I can take.

    That's a tough one alright..

You've inspired me to reattempt to perfect the olive oil one. I used Extra virgin olive oil the last time as I love the taste. I'll try making it again with the 'Extra Light' olive oil with a little rapeseed oil to thin it out. The omega 9 to 3 ratios would be fine that way.

I'll report back how I get on.. I miss egg mayonnaise!

I make coleslaw with fat free fromage frais and light mayo mixed in. Does the trick and tastes fairly good!
