Hi babycakes. The only thing I'll say is that you might find it difficult to get people talking freely about surgery of this type on the forum, but I hope you're able to find some answers.

And as a pre-emptive strike, the first (and all subsequent) nonsensical, unhelpful and inappropriate posts about this topic will be deleted and the poster banned from the forum.

Hi babycakes. I dont have the answers your looking for but I do know that its expensive in Ireland, you could be looking at 8 grand  I think the recovery period is between 6 to 8 weeks. The only person that can advice you whether or not to go through with the procedure is you, you know yourself better. Is it that important to you? Could you learn to live with what you have? Does it affect how you feel about yourself? If you got pregnant and had a boob job your boobs could go up a size again and you could be left with melons. Theres risks involved, of course there is. You have to ask yourself is it worth it.

I suggest that you call up one of the surgeries and book a consultation, you can get all you questions answered, and if you decide its not for you then at least you had all the information beforehand. Id also suggest doing a little bit of research into the area and I wouldnt take it lightly, it is after all a medical procedure that will affect your life.

Babycakes, please do proper research into this. Don't go to some cowboy quack for this procedure. Keep in mind that what you are contemplating is surgery under general anaesthesia and this should not be taken lightly. Complications and Consequences are the same as for any other form of invasive surgical procedure. Cost should not be the main factor here, your safety and wellbeing are paramount.

On a side note I'm 5ft 11' and the same bra size as you. Its not ever something I would contemplate, and I would imagine, as you are relatively petite, yours probably look bigger than mine. Are you sure you really need to take such a drastic step?? I find a wonderbra works wonders if I need a bit of ooomph, and previous partners(aswell as the current one) have never complained about my chest size, its sort of proportionate to the rest of me;)

I'm sure you have thought about this for quite a while, but I am merely making the point that perhaps you are blowing this out of proportion? You aren't that small a size, and I have several friends who have larger boobs, and they seem to be nothing but hassle; awkward for bras, awkward for clothes, awkward for the gym etc.

Whatever you do, please go to a reputable clinic.

Oh, and if you do proceed, be careful with your employers; I worked with somebody who was fired because she took sick leave to have a boob job; probably best to keep it quiet if you do go ahead.

    MH

It might be a bit odd if she returns to work with larger lady lumps...unless she claims she had some kind of weird illness that only permanently swelled her up. If shes allowed the sick leave it shouldnt be a problem...but by all means, dont rush the recovery period.

5)Are the end results worth the pain?

Surely only you can answer this one!! ;)

Edit: I'm the very same height and size as you - and I'd never contemplate it unless my hips were very wide and looked out of proportion.

If you even went up one cup size, you'd be surprised how much more noticable they would become! Do you want to be a pair of walking boobs? Also if you were planning a family at some stage, they'd possibly have to be redone after as a result of sagging etc (did you see the Kerry Katona operation?)

You'll be putting yourself through serious surgery .... and for what?

IMHO 34B is a perfect size.

    Ditto.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

I would think you should think twice over the reasons you have for wanting this and really thinkis surgery the answer.

As a previous poster mentioned your breasts can go up sizes from pregnancy. Pre pregnancy i was a 34b afterwards i was a 34d. Not suggesting you get pregnant to increase your breast size btw! Just think you should look at all the angles.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3 babycakes641

Hey,thanks for the replies i guess i really didnt go into enough detail when i was describing myself im quite a broad build, like my breasts are not in proportion with my body, well i dont feel they are.Understand, that im not heavy ive broad shoulders, but my breasts just look horrible like theyre not made for my body.I have my reservations about getting in contact with a surgery as i did this on one occasion last year and met with a nurse attached with this medical group,on meetin her she almost forced me to make an appointment to meet the medical groups surgeon to discuss my breast size and to pay a fee,and during the course of the meeting i continually told her i wasnt 100% sure if i wanted to go through with the surgery but she still insisted that i pay the fee and meet the doctor and then make an appointment for the surgery for a later date.On telling her id like to go home and think about it she rang me nearly everyday for two weeks until i eventually picked up the courage and told her i decided not to go through with this so you can understand why im cautious about this.

It is a decision that requires caution no matter how sure you are that you want it.

Would you consider something in fitness to alter your shape a bit more, or have you tried different styles of bras etc?

HHmm 5ft 5 and a 34 sounds very average. Certainly not broad.
I'm broad and it means my boobs look bigger than they are, because they sit all to the front.
I wonder if your body image is a little distorted?

Does the way you feel about your boobs hold you back?

Hey OP, if i had the dosh i'd be the first in for this treatment, although i am terrified of needles and the like, so I'd probably chicken out in the end. Recently my size reduced dramatically due to losing weight (didnt want to) and i feel so self conscious so I can fully understand your reasons. I want to go to a 34c i think that is the perfect size.
So when i say this you will know i am saying it for your own good, 34b is a great size, why don't you go into a shop and get fitted for a bra that will make your boobs sit better and in better shape, or get firming cream or get a personal trainer to help you work on your boobs, because you definately have something there to work with.
Otherwise I took a number down from the radio the other day ... heard it and took it down incase i ever won the lotto :)

its 1850 34 24 34 thats a renowned clinic in Dublin, maybe they could answer your questions?! Keep us posted ;)

I'd love to have bigger fried eggs but it is something I just couldn't do, it's not even the whole operation that bothers me that much, it's having these things in my body that aren't a part of me, would feel strange.

But if it's really what you want and you research until it's coming out of your ears and you still want to go ahead with it then do what makes you happy.

Before you contemplate surgery go get a proper bra fitting, you would be surprised how many women are wearing the wrong size bra and a decent fitting bra makes all the difference.

If you do decide to go ahead with the surgery consider the extra weight you will have to carry after surgery, as a women with naturally large boobs, 34G, the extra weight is an awful strain on the posture, Ive had back trouble since the age of 16, I know you probably wouldnt be going to those extremes size wise but any change in the weight of breasts are going to strain your back!

Im in the opposite position to you, would kill for smaller ones, but couldnt deal with the scaring!

I think alarm bells should ring if a clinic is that pushy tbh, its surely indicative that their main objective is profit not their patients.

I think moonbaby might be right when she queried your own body image, i know few women have a hugely positive view of their own selves, i know I don't, but as I mentioned previously I'm a good bit taller than you and te same bra size, and I have a broad build with big square shoulders(made bigger by all the diving I do), and my boobs are still right for me I feel.

I really think you should exhaust all options before going this route. A decent proper fitting and sized bra, coupled with a few sessions with a good personal trainer could 'boost' you no end, and cost you a damn sight less.

Surgery is surgery afterall, I've seen a lot of it and had some essential general surgery stuff done myself; I only ever think that one should enter an operating theatre if absolutely essential, the risk within and beyond the procedure is far too great.

    Just my 2c.

i know someone who paid around 6000 for hers to be done and they look horrible on her. Its upto you in the end but you sound grand me

 Talk about pushy sales techniques.

There's a thread here about bra fittings that you might find interesting:
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055235084

Have you considered approaching your GP for a referral to a surgeon? There must be reputable surgeons that are doing breast reconstruction in the public system that your GP would be aware of, and they probably also see patients privately for enlargements.

I'd be wary of surgeons who have to employ pushy salespeople like the nurse you've described above - if their work is good their patients and other medical professionals should be PR enough.

OP an important thing to remember is that this will be your first boob job, not your only boob job.

Not many people realise that when they sign up for it and the clinics like to keep that fairly quiet.

OP, before deciding on where to have the procedure you should contact the Irish Association of Plastic Surgeons to make sure that the clinic is accredited. Here's a couple of useful pieces of information from the VHI website:
    VHI wrote:
    Licensing and standards

The Irish Medical Council (IMC) has publicly stated its disapproval of the sudden growth of private cosmetic surgery clinics in Ireland and is calling upon the Government to introduce licensing laws, particularly for those practices that do not meet even the basic standards of the Irish Association of Plastic Surgeons (IAPS).

Members of the IAPS must be certified by the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland, as well as the Register of Medical Specialists of the IMC. Some plastic surgeons in Ireland are not always registered in this way.
    VHI wrote:
    Some simple advice

    * Thoroughly discuss the implications of your procedure with your surgeon, including potential side-effects or complications.
    * Have realistic expectations. No surgical procedure can permanently delay the effects of time and gravity.
    * If you are considering plastic surgery, ask your general practitioner for a referral to a registered specialist.
    * Don’t believe advertisements that promise miracle results and quick fixes.

As someone who has had several non-elective operations over the past ten years I would urge you to think carefully about this. Any surgery requiring general anaesthetic carries risks, and I personally have had complications because of it. Volunteering for an operation is not something I will ever find myself doing as a result of my experiences.

Go for it then, people get surgery for all different reasons i think yours is a very valid one. If the size of your boobs is knocking your confidence then thats a good reason as any to have the procedure done.
Have you visited any websites that offer this surgery? You should google a few that are close to you and read all about it. Theres loads of information out there and some really good surgeons. I know 2 people that have had it done and are thrilled with the end results and their confidence has gone way up. As a previous poster has said its not a once of operation but im sure you know that if you really wanted it. Best of luck with it. :)

    Hey :)

Just looking for info on boob jobs?? Anybody heard of any good places in Ireland to get it done???

I'd be wary of a lot of these cosmetic hospitals that "specialise in" boob jobs. I know of an excellent surgeon in Cork that did some work on my sister and her friend. My sis had a reconstruction after a masetomy but her friend had implants and was super pleased with the results. He also did a reduction on my friend. But I'd be more inclined to go to a consultant platic surgeon than any "clinics". PM if you want his name
