I seen this myself on sun with two mates, fully expecting a good film but boy was i wrong! I didnt know anything about it beforehand but one of my mates read the book and enjoyed it, all it is on screen is a glorified chick flick...i could only find two positive things to mention apart from the end credits which were 1. They played Supermassive Black Hole (Muse being my fave band):D and 2. Some of the effects they used like the way Edward could run and leap really fast. My 2c being that i want my 2hrs back;)

It was'nt a dig at you. I've endured some truly terrible cinema going experiences where I've had a film I was really enjoyed ruined for me due to other peoples inability to just sit there and enjoy the film.

Indeed. If you really hate the film leave the cinema, don't ruin it for anyone who is enjoying it.

Bloody hell, it wasn't just a short story, it was Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad and it's a fantastic book.

Im surprised no Anne Rice fans are on here mentioning how incredibly stupid and insulting it is to have vampires that can walk out in the sun. In this film it seems they can, only if they were ultra cool shades and dark leather jackets that is. *finger down throat* for the whole thing.

Your friend is a dude who read the books and dragged you to the film?

I think he's trying to tell you something but doesn't have the guts yet.

I'd urge everyone who doesn't like this to seek out 'Let The Right One In'. A proper teen vampire movie, and easily one of the best films I've seen this year. Don't think it's out here 'til April, though. It's available though, if you know what I mean..........

Ever so slightly mortified at having seen this film. I was bored, heard the word vampire and thought "why the fook not", Oh dear!

Highlight of that evening (completely off topic): woman gets up half way through the film with her coat, obviously appalled by the film, heads straight for the......Fire Exit?!?! Which was just beside the screen.
~10 minutes later two cineworld employees with torches start a rescue mission. They resurface a few minutes later with disgruntled and disorientated woman & lead her out the actual exit. :D

Anyway, yeah film was god awful IMO

Best part of the film for me:
Bella slips slapstick style on the ice.

I was sitting near the front and about two seconds later a girl gets up and does the exact same thing, was a little unfortunate for her timing wise.

Was there a point to that scene? Got dragged to it last night, thought it was quite enjoyable (then again I did have 8 drinks in me, had to man up). Just laugh at the wooden acting and you will get through it.

For those of you who'd like a humorous but insightful take on the movie, check out the following link:

It's very good, as is the site in general.

Yeah, I stumbled across the site a couple of years ago when it was much, much smaller.

    My favourite scripts on it:

The Fellowship of the Ring (in fact all the LOTR ones).
The Dark Knight (just for the "confrontation" between the Joker and Batman - you'll see why...! ;))
Vanilla Sky (for the "biggest mistake" joke).

But they're all good, it'll hopefully keep you amused for many days to come...!

    Yep,
The chap used to do "really" abridged scripts that featured in Total Film magazine.

He's a funny b*stard, it has to be said!

According to the book, she's a helpless female lead that can't do anything on her own, so I guess this emphasises it? Also that ice is slippy *factual nod*

Loved that script thing, there are so many of them online, 'cause they pretty awful books (the first was enough for me) and films.

OT but loved that website with the scripts. This is brilliant from the Quantum of Solace
    MATHIEU AMALRIC
Alright, I’ve had enough of this.
    DANIEL CRAIG
What, me following you everywhere you go and thwarting your attempts to acquire Bolivian oil?
    MATHIEU AMALRIC
No, the whole movie. “Quantum of Solace”? Is this a Bond movie or a ****ing poetry reading? This **** is so pretentious and angst-ridden it makes Crash look like Moonraker.
    DANIEL CRAIG
We’re just going for a more gritty, realistic Bond, that’s all.
    MATHIEU AMALRIC
Realistic? You jumped a ****ing boat with another ****ing boat a little while ago.

So tell me, fans of the book; is this yet another case of a movie not doing the books justice, like the Potter series?? Personally, having seen the film last night, I can’t see what all the fuss was about, considering the crazy hype that surrounded it even before it opened.

The story seemed to be going absolutely nowhere and then all of a sudden, the gears shifted drastically towards the end and a big chase ensued. It seemed totally forced and out of place compared to the pacing of the rest of the film. I still don’t get why
the bad guy HAD to find and kill the girl. What was the motive? There was plenty of other meat around
    .

I thought the direction was just plain bizarre at times. You’d think you were watching a music video in parts. And the inclusion of songs throughout tended to overwhelm quite a lot of the scenes (though the score itself was quite nice, when you got to hear it).

The male lead was decent enough (and his accent was good, considering hes a posh Brit!), but the female lead was very bland. The vamps showed more emotion than she did. I did find some of her schoolmates quite amusing, though that might have been unintentional humour!

When it all boils down to it, I’m probably not the films target audience, but I still found the whole thing forgettable.

Oh and just cause it bugged the hell out of me; why did no one at the school find it odd that the doctor and all of his "adopted" kids were freakishly pale?

I'm mid 20's, don't read chick-lit or mushy stuff. I'm reading Twilight and I have to say I really like it. It does get mushy at times but I hear that graduates out in New Moon etc. The writing is not amazing by any standards but it's still just a great aul yarn.
Saw the movie last night & I can understand how someone who's not read the book would think it's a bite sh1te. I thought Pattinson & Stewart were perfect for the leads - not so sure re the rest of the casting though. I'd say it could have been a lot better but it's a bit of a hard book to put to film as there is a LOT more to it then just what you see in the movie.
And yes, I have become slightly infatuated with the fictional lead male character :D sad

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,203 ✭✭✭partyguinness

The lead male character was hilarious (not that he was supposed to be).

He just stared at everything...the next Scary Movie will defo be able to parady that:D

As said earlier, the vampires had more emotion that the lead female. There is so much to parady I might even start myself.

Dont know which was more ****e Twilight or Suburbia...lets start a debate..:p

ps I hadnt read the book but did one need to read Lord of the Rings to appreciate it?

Good point but I watched LOTR after reading the books. I came across people who were very disinterested in the whole film series but hadn't read the books. Just seems LOTR readers were WAY more into the movies then non readers. And so it goes with Twilight series.

I agree, Rob's Edward will get parodied big time. I don't think he'll be able to shake that role for a very long time. Better accent than expected though

Same here I read the book first time in 1995 before it was cool..lol and again when the films started coming out. I watched the films fully expecting that I would hate them and would start picking out faults every five minutes...but no I think Jackson did a great job in the circumstances.

But sorry Twilight just wasnt for me.

Yeah the Twilight director didn't do anywhere near an amazing a job as Peter Jackson did for LOTR

    I'm converted.. sorta!!
had the flu over xmas n my lil sis got the books so i read em to fill time.. and did they, omg they drag! i like the idea of it being about love instead of the usual horror type theme, but its just too much and awkward to read at times..bella is oh so slighty obsessed in the first book thats not so normal.
lil sis also dragged me to the movie and i dont think i actually saw or heard half of it between my sis screaming everytime edward r jacob came on screen or chatting to her friends. curious to see how the second movie will play out since the book seems so morbid..but i'm converted, robert is dreamy in this role.

but you can keep the books and all the typo's and repetitive paragraphs on bellas obsession.

The books were really good!! They consumed my life over christmas....i became a social recluse!!!! Worth it though!!

I thought the film was good, but like most films that are based on books, it just wasnt AS good.

And at the risk opf being lynched....Robert Pattinson is A LASH!!!

Watched this over the weekend (not at the cinema) under protest as my gf was going to bug me til I did. Tbh I expected it to be completely unwatchable and it wasn't. The story was ok, the acting was ok, the camera work was ok......you see where I'm going.

It was unspectacular but watchable at the same time. I've certainly seen far worse lately. I haven't and won't be reading the books but when the second movie comes out I'll watch it out of curiosity more so than anything else.

    Average, but not terrible.
