Just got a belkin g+ mimo wireless router. Have fastcom broadband 2mb up and down. When we have the net connected directly connected to the laptop everything is fine most of the time. Forums/poker/downloads etc. Now when we connect a laptop to the wireless router the poker client will disconnect every 20-30 seconds for a while and reconnect to the poker table, rinse and repeat. Similarly for downloads via the wireless router, every 20 seconds the download will stop. The net is not going off, am still connected. Can easily start up the download again but the same thing will happen most of the time. When two of us are on wireless, my laptop will open forum pages fast yet the other laptop will take 20 seconds.

Now when I stick the internet cable into the wireless router and then connect two ethernet cables from the router to our laptops to connect to the internet, instead of wirelessly, it will also be very slow and the poker client will keep disconnecting etc. Both laptops have worked fine on wireless networks before.

    Any advice appreciated!

Have you tried poking the wireless router?

Have you tried changing the wireless channel used by the router? Also have you checked to see if any of your neighbours are using the same channel? (Netstumbler will do this for you)

And have you checked for spyware etc on the laptops?

I have changed the channel but as I'm in teh country, I doubt anybody is even near enough to use it if they wanted. No spyware according to scan. Bit of a disaster.

If i read your post correct then a direct connection to the router is fine, but a wireless connection is not. That being the case then something is broadcasting on a similar frequency and causing interference in your signal therefore weaking it.

Some examples, Cordless Phone, Microwave, AV Sender etc

What sort of signal strength have you got ???

You did read it correctly. The wired connection is fine. The signal strength is perfect, 5 bars. I don't know what could be interfering. All that is on in the room is two laptops and the wireless router.

You sure you have nothing else i.e. Cordless Phones Av Senders. I know i have had trouble with those in the past

Just re-read your post "MiMO router" i would assume that you do not have MIMO Cards on the laptops i wonder is it a compatibility issue between MIMO Router and non MIMO Wireless Cards

no idea what is compatible with mimo, I have a Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection. Dell vostro laptop with vista business.

All that is on in the house is tvs, laptops and mobiles.

Have you tried updating the laptop drivers? Might also be worth seeing if there is a firmware update for the router.

Belkin have suggested the following, will try!

    Hi Paul,

Thank you for contacting Belkin Technical Support.

We understand your concern and apologize for the inconvenience. Please change the "MTU" on the router by following the steps given below.

You can change the MTU size on the router only if you have configured the router for a PPPOE connection.
If the connection type provided by your ISP is DSL and the router is configured for PPPOE, please refer
to the steps given below for changing the MTU size on the router:-

    - Open "Internet Explorer" and type in 192.168.2.1 and then click on "Go".
    - Leave the password blank and click "Submit".
    - Click on "Connection Type".
    - Select "PPPOE" and then click on "Next".
    - Enter the MTU settings recommended by your ISP.
    - Click on "Apply Changes".

If the connection type provided by your ISP is "Cable" and if the router is configured for a Dynamic connection, you cannot change the MTU size on the router. However you can change the MTU size on the computer. The third party DRTCP software can be used to change the MTU setting. This can be downloaded from http://www.dslreports.com/drtcp

    - Unzip the Utility to your desktop.
    - Run the utility.
    - In the "Adapter Settings" pull down, select the Ethernet driver and adapter used to connect with the network.
    - In the MTU box, type the MTU size as 1400.
    - Click on any other box, without changing the data there.
    - Click "Apply".
    - Click "Exit".

Please let us know if you need any further assistance. We will be glad to help you.
