How can people think Subway use good meat when it's there in front of you to see? The Ham looks like no ham i've ever seen before, it all looks gross. I only ever get a veggie sub in there.

As for O'Briens...anywhere that has to liquidise its sandwich fillings, you have to wonder about.

Poor O Briens!!! Closing everywhere - Athy, Tralee,Longford, Nenagh and loads for sale. Heard a few franchisees are pulling out of the franchise and starting their own. Good luck to them.

Brodie Sweeney "The Chairman of O'Briens Sandwich Bars" was a guest on Gareth O'Callaghans breakfast show on 4FM yesterday morning - no mention of any downturn was very upbeat - I suppose he'd have to be. Wasnt there a news story about legal actions between O'Briens and some of their franchisees - are these closures connected with this ?

I worked in a large catering company and they changed from lovely popular chopped chicken to that mushy liquidised crap. Everyone complained, even the staff who were tired listening to the complaints.

Why did they change? Easy, cheaper, you use less per portion and any old chicken will do as you cant see it properly.

Ye, there is 3 court actions been taking by O'Briens at the moment. Every unit has a price at the moment. Brody has said that 10 - 15% will close this year due to the recession. Brody has only come back into Obriens full time in the past 6 months. He got rid of the CEO and has got rid of alot of staff.

The O'Brien's in Oliver Plunkett St Cork closed recently. Big signs up to say business relocating before it closed. The business actually relocated to an existing store down the street.

BTW, I got a veggie wrap (lettuce, peppers, tomato and cheese) in Herlihy's Centra Oliver Plunkett St today and was charged €4.50! That's around 50% more than any of the independent specialist food shops in the market - that'll teach me to be in a hurry.

Centra on Grand Parade next to argos is way more reasonable, especcially if you get a large roll.

Brody Sweeney has had his eye off the ball for a long time now. All the while he was swanning around trying to get into Dail Eireann his business has been going down the pan. O'Briens has always been expensive tripe and as well their stores aren't exactly appealing either compared to the effort Insomnia and others put in. I don't really feel one bit sorry for the prediciment O'Briens is facing. The only people I would feel sorry is the staff who will loose their jobs as a result of x amount of stores closing.

Wish insomnia had a good range of rolls etc bet they'd be good, ( dont know if they actually do, one near me is only small) but anything ive gotten there has been good and worth what i paid, there really is no excuse for o briens now, only last week i got a yummy roll in centra or was it londus ? on dame st. opp. central bank for 1.99 , was the special offered in the poster in the window, and i would have paid twice that in O'B's

I usually only buy a roll or sandwich on friday on my way home, and tbh the mace at the local garage has better value and a decent choice of fillings hot and cold for cheaper ............ mmmmmmmmmmmmmm im getting a tuna sweetcorn , hot chicken and cheese there tomorrow yum
