Are the Housemartins the most under rated band of all time? Some classic all time songs, really reflective of the 80's and also controversial and non-PC to the establishment.

    Thoughts?

Underrated? Not at all, their albums did pretty well for their time and The Beautiful South and Fatboy Slim came out of it both who have had their fair share of success over the course of the past 15 years +.

I do think some of their stuff was ahead of their time though for a band who like most at the time, relied heavily on heavy rotation and commercialism.

Happy Hour and Caravan of Love were bloody terrible. But Build and Think For A Minute were pretty decent tunes, I thought.

    Happy Hour's a great song!

Although, I'm getting a bit sick of all the "London 0 Hull 4" pieces now that Hull City are winning a few games.

I agree totally, every media outlet is linking it in to that album.

Personally, I love the Housemartins, some of their tracks are excellent, I love Sheep and We're Not Deep.

I should probably edit the " i love sheep " above

Super band alright - both albums have stood the test of time fairy well.
If you're talking underrated bands though I think Microdisney and The Blades were criminally underrated.

The Beautiful South remain a guilty pleasure, although I feel guilty about calling them a guilty pleasure because they were a bloody decent band and I should just ignore the musical snobbery.

Anybody going to see Paul Heaton this week?
