Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

not a good start for Ireland, looks like a likely whitewash against a much higher rated Poland.

Slow starts for most of the top teams, too.

Ireland, without Baburin, whitewashed Luxembourg today. Off the mark.

does anyone know how does the Swiss system work in this tournament? For example Russia are on board 1 despite having scored 2.5/4 yesterday, playing Poland who have 4/4.

This is probably a bad place to ask but someone might have an idea.

I believe the standings are based on the match result, rather than the score, so Russia and Poland both won yesterday.

So the pairings are based on the match points, but the winner is the team with the most board points? Or is it entirely on match points (I think not)?

    I think it goes by:

    Match points
    Board points
    Elo average, i.e. seeding.

    Not entirely certain, though.

still no news of note from the Irish team: they've beaten the lower ranked teams and lost to the higher rated ones.

what might interest some people is that the young English grandmaster Gawain Jones drew with Black against world no. 2 Alexander Morozevich. Gawain was living in Ireland until quite recently and was a regular at the Irish tournaments.

    Armenia won.

Pretty shocking results for Ireland. Ranked 57 and came 60th so I guess it's not all that bad, but we usualy come top 50. Not such a good tournie for many of the Irish players. Baburin got the ole performance rating of 2386, and Collins had one of 2243! Tough luck
