There will be a new process in the selection of Fianna Fail candidates to run in local elections whereby candidates must go through an interview process.

The identity of the interview board members is unknown but speculation is rife that they will not be from the local region but from Dublin.

The selection convention which was previously in place was a system where candidates were elected by their peers.

The panel is likely to be 2 members of Ardchomhairle, 2 members of HQ staff + Dempsey (cities)/ Coughlan (counties)

I've been to selection conventions. They only result in the oldest person in the race being selected based on knowing most of the people in the room.

There are pros and cons to both, but I'd prefer interview to be a nominating body to convention, to sweep the deadwood that's failed the last 9 times and let the people with a hope in hell go to convention.
