Starting Jazz Double Bass

    I'm finishing Grade 8 classical bass this year but I've never really had a chance to play any jazz. Any recommendations for "must-learn" things?
    I assume I just start by learning the different scales, Lydian, Dorian, etc?

    Any tricks that everyone uses, that kind of thing?

    Also, I suspect the height of my strings is a little high for jazz - what's the norm? Is an adjustable bridge a way round this or does that affect the tone?
