Good news though that it's confirmed

Well, confirmed that she's the choice (Though I don't know if that's good news or not, I still think they could have chosen better). There are still some workarounds/wrangling that needs to happen before she is confirmed by the Senate: How many Senators are going to vote for something which on the face of it is unConstitutional?

As a steadfast Obama supporter I'm a tad worried by his cabinet picks so far. Every major cabinet role has been gifted to either a Republican or a centrist. There is not one progressive or liberal voice in there apart from hopefully the man himself and maybe Joe the Veep.

    What's unconstitutional?

Her appointment to a Cabinet position: The SecState's pay was raised during her term as a Senator, and the Constitution specifically states that no Senator shall take an office when the emolument (i.e. compensation) of that office was raised during their term as Senator. SecState got a pay raise last year.

The workaround in the past has been to give the Secretary in question a pay cut, thus meeting the intent, if not the letter of the law. The question is over 'just how many Senators are going to support a breaking of the law because "It's OK in this case"', especially given the anguish over the various questionable policies currently in place. Particularly ironic since the last time this issue came about, it was Democrats hollering "We don't care if it meets the spirit of the law, it's still unConstitutional!"

(Presumptive) AG Holder's not exactly a Republican's favourite person.

Assuming Hillary gets the job, she'll have to give up her Senate seat, and NY governor David Paterson must pick someone to fill the seat until the next election. One person who's put her name forward is Fran Drescher. That's right: The Nanny wants to go to Washington. If you've never heard of Fran, here's a Nanny scene in which she appears both in character and as herself. Oy, that voice, in Congress?

From out there on the moon, international politics look so petty. You want to grab a politician by the scruff of the neck and drag him a quarter of a million miles out and say, ‘Look at that, you son of a bitch’.
