    Boards rules state that you must submit a 10,000 word essay to the current mod of the forum you wish to moderate explaining why you would make a good addition to the team.

    Also asking / wanting to be one often is an automatic disqualification, or at least a large negative score.

    It's more you are asked, than you apply.
