Hi was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on air tightness issues that i should consider before building a block cavity house.

I was recommended to stratch coat the inside of the exterior walls before the insulated slabs are put up.

Is there anything else i should mention to the builder before he starts?

achieving an acceptable level of airtightness will require much more than a 'mention':)
The devil is in executing the detail correctly at all stages of construction: I will PM u a link to a company who has produced a leaflet on the issues: I am not recommending them, but they do cover all the bases in a more readable form than I can type here:)

PS: the scratch coat idea will help

I agree with above. Sealing around timber joists, in blockwork walls, is important.

There are 3 suppliers of airtight materials, at the moment. One has been on the market in Ireland, for a number of years. Each company have detailed documents on their web sites - Siga, Moy and Proclima / Ecological Building Systems.

    Check them all out.

There are 2 set of details that you are supposed to follow for thermal bridging

    Accredited Details (Acceptable - Ireland)
    or
    Enhanced Accredited (UK only)

The ENhanced recommend the scratch coat before application of the thermal liner

It can be assumed that with Accredited - you'll achieve min 7 Q50

    With Enhanced - 4 Q50

I've asked a number of times on a number of forums - with the specialized tapes -
what permeability did the users actually achieve? -
    Is it worth the expense?
If you do go below 5/4 - do you want to go Mech Vent? - it's recommended
