For example i cant stand Tommy Tiernan anymore.
His idea of stand up is "Roar and shout and the audience and swear sometimes and do something controversial to cause some laughter."
Lost his edge completely. He used to be fantastically insightful. As you say, now he's more reliant on causing controversy than actually being funny.

Two quite funny clips. (both from 2002 btw) ;)

ARE WE GETTING THROUGH TO YA TOMMY?!

    YA LOST IT!!!

    *ahem*

    But possibly the strangest moment:

    1998.

his new show bovinity was on comedy central there recently and i couldnt watch it, even though i had seen it live (very drunk) i could not make it through watchin it, he just screamed start to finish, there were funny jokes though, but he shouted them which destroyed the humour!

well thats an irish thing, once someone or something irish becomes famous outside this country, it automatically becomes sh*te ;)

Its all been downhill for Tiernan since his first dvd. His first one was brilliant. Second one was pretty funny, third was just a disaster. So much so that I haven't even considered getting the newest ones.

Dara O Briains dvds have both been absolutely brilliant though. Everything from his interactions with the audience and rehearsed material is spot on. Saw him in Vicar Street a few years ago too. Brilliant. Best Irish comedian in my opinion.

I would agree with you but i cant, there are a good few exceptions.

Paddy bet me to giving my first example:

He is just such a funny man, i think its his sheer presence.
I met him a few times and every time he has been so witty and had time for everyone and just the same guy.

as in the "Dara O'Briain" onstage isnt just an act like some comedians are.
    Tiernan for one.

Met him just before the Vicar Street gig I mentioned earlier. We were outside cos one of the lads wanted a smoke, and met him going in. Didn't get talking to him, but he said well, and thanked us for coming, even shook hands with us. Just a damn nice bloke.

That being said, I definitely didn't sit around the front of the stage incase he ripped the p*ss out of me :D

I'm comin' home! Back on the 18th of August until the 25th. I had to fiddle around on Ryanair's site for a while but the total cost of the flights came to £2. Bargain!

I was front row for Dara O Briain about 6 months ago in Vicar St. I got the mother of all blaggardins off him.
