    What linux is that? :pac:

    Not ubuntu is it?

It certainly is ubuntu. Both are running on the latest ubuntu (9.04), but the desktop has 2x19" monitors hence the extra wide desktop area.

With a little searching for a nice background and tweaking about, you can change it from the drab looking default.

But then, all OS's are drab the second they're installed.

So, I am off on my holidays tomorrow. Woohoo. Slight problem is I have a cracking tooth ache which is beginning to hurt my entire body and I cannot get a dentist appointment to pull the bastard thing out.

Huzzah for 4 x nurofen plus at a go ;)

Self dentistry works there, a bottle of Jack Daniels and a Pliers will be your best friends. :D
Nine out of ten dentists who expressed their preference said their sanity prefered it.

Okay that was a lie. The reason I could not get an appointment was because I was too scared to ring. Have one at 12.15. Never had a tooth pulled and had one filling in my life.

To be honest (and yes, i'm gonna be nice to you), dentistry has come a long way in the last 20 years or so. Extractions aren't actually that painful, the only thing you feel is a little pressure, unless it's something really f*cking serious like an apsis (sp?), and even that can be treated prior to an extraction.

The worst part is the hours leading up to walking in the door. But you'll be grand, and don't be afraid to tell the dentist that you can still feel the pain if you can, most of them don't mind hitting you with another injection.

Last extraction i had to get done took six injections and i still felt it, but i have bastard teeth with roots the length of masonary nails :(

to be honest, i dont mind getting teeth out at all.

getting fillings wrecks my teeth though. Really sore. Terrified of fillings....

No worries, glad it went well.
I need to make an appointment soon actually, i think i can feel my front tooth chipping away. I weakened the crap out of one of them when i had a bar in my tongue for a few years and kept accidentally knocking the end of it. The back of it cracked to bits, and got it taken care of, but now the front of it is coming apart slowly.

Price of dental work in this cuntry is a joke

That extraction was just €27 as my stamp subsidised it all, so that was grand.

I contracted for years, so when i went back to full time work at the time i got the extraction done, i didn't have enough contributions so I was stung full whack at €90! :(

Probably just calculus, a bit of plaque broken off. I was ****tin myself when I was away for a week that my two bottom teeth were chipping and wearing away like mad but turned out there was nothin major to worry about. :)

Have you not got a medical card since youre not workin?

I never applied for it, on the sole premise that my dentist doesn't accept it. And cos he's the only dentist that i actually trust, and does a good job of it, i actually don't mind forking out for it, as opposed to going back to some guy to have a filling put in time out of number because he botched it because it was "social welfare day".

Get what i pay for in the end, i've had it with "medical card dentists"

Never had a single issue with my dentist and my mam has had way worse experiences when she had to pay back in the day. Silly bastard gave her 6 injections because he kept ****ing up, and all 6 injections were in the bill.

Just how many times have you been to different dentists to form those opinions?

Three different local places, close by to where i used to live. Then didn't go near a dentist for nearly ten years and then when i was working in the City Centre and needed emergency treatment, my current guy was recommended to me by a work colleague, and i've never looked back since.

Sky channel 279. 10.30 National Tractor Pulling!

Surprised the GAA didn't snap that one up as a "national sport" too, they seem to like all things that suck! ;)

The worst bit is the da in law to be phoned me to tell me it was on.

There is a tractor pull on in the town i live (tullamore). No one in work knew what tractor pulling is.

I asked the da in law.

Not only did he know what it was, he knew where i would see it. Phones me 10 mins ago to say it would be on.

    Have to tune in now.

Can anyone with PC knowledge help me out here. I've discovered a site that plays live TV (its legal, apparently) but only to the UK.

    Moderator Edit:
And it's most likely UK only for a reason. Just like WWE's 24/7 service in the US, workarounds are not to be posted up!

I never used to mind the dentist until I went one day as I chipped one of my back teeth on a hard sweet and thought it would just need filling, I got some barely out of dentist college (or whatever it is they go to) girl who wanted to extract it, fine i thought just get it over and done with, took 3 injections as she kept sticking in the wrong spot and when she pulled the tooth she shattered it and needed to dig the rest out of my jaw, that was a fun day, havent been back since,my missus is always at me to go more but I see the dentist as something to go to when im in agony not because I want to, plus the ****ers will always tell you you need fillings for teeth that in no way hurt or look bad

If you got the fillings done you wouldn't need the "f*ckers" as you so quaintly put it to extract your teeth. And if you have a rotten tooth thats your fault not the dentists!

Are you replying to the post you quoted because I can't see much relevant there.
Dentists have been taking the piss for years with braces and fillings. My sister probably needed braces but didn't get them, dentist probably didn't think he'd get enough to make it worth his while since my sister was on the medical card, yet I see cousins and others with sweet FA wrong with their teeth getting braces, but only people with either private health insurance or paying cash.

At the end of primary school with a free checkup I was told I needed a few fillings. We couldn't afford them so I never got them, and I still haven't died yet. Last time at the dentist I was told my teeth are perfectly healthy, just needed a quick polish. Funny that eh?
Oh and lets not forget when dentists **** up and don't do a filling/cap properly. They'll usually try and charge full price again, and unfortunately most people don't have the guts to argue with them.

Thats because the Medical Card doesn't cover orthodontic treatment. She wasn't entitled to the treatment, which is hardly the dentist's fault!

You actually could and should have gotten that treatment done free of charge when you were in primary school, all schoolchildren are entitled to basic dental care like fillings and extractions. I'm not sure why that dentist would have told you you needed treatment you didn't need, they'd have stood to gain nothing financially from it, they'd have been making extra work for themselves! Chances are they were primary teeth that have since fallen out, hence the fact you don't need fillings now.

The vast majority of Irish dentists are highly qualified, honest people of the highest integrity. In fact the training thats given in this country, the specialists who train them and the facilities used in their training are the envy of Europe. Like in any job you'll get a tiny minority of money hungry chancers, but no more so than plumbers, builders, politicians or any other job you care to name. In most cases a second opinion or asking the dentist to use X Rays or other means to justify treatment could easily ensure that they're doing their job properly and not blackguarding you. Medical litigation is such a common thing these days that its hardly worth a dentist's while doing treatment thats not needed that could end up with the embarrassment of a costly court case. Also, if a dentist makes a balls of a filling you'd be perfectly entitled to have it replaced free of charge. Then again thats probably not as easy as posting on the internet making factually innacurate claims about things you don't really know much about, now, is it!?;)

Well she was told she didn't need them, not that it wasn't covered by the medical card, and her teeth are and were far more crooked than people I've seen getting braces.

Because it was at the end of 6th class I would've been 13 by the time there was space for an appointment or whatever and I would've had to pay for it. Funny that. And they definitely weren't primary teeth.

Sorry, do dentists do medical card treatment for free? They don't get any payment through the medical card for it? Is it the same with doctors? If so why don't the government give out more medical cards, it mustn't cost them anything since the dentists and doctors don't get payment for the work.

And where did I make a factually inaccurate claim? I said that I know one person whose dentist ballsed up a filling and cap and he had to get it replaced. And he was stupid enough to pay for it again instead of putting his foot down. Ya can say that it was his fault for not arguing, but it's hardly a sign of integrity that the dentist even tried to charge again is it?

At the end of the day, dentists are out to make a living. I'm lucky enough with my current dentist that he accepts the medical card and my family and I have had nothing but good experiences with him.
