Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. ....according to John Delaney.

He's hoping for them to play against each other when the new Lansdowne is built. I suppose it's a good way to test the security at the new stadium. :D

What's the odds we draw them for the Euro's now?

Bad idea. Some people never learn.

Brilliant. Let's build a new stadium and then let it get ripped apart in the first game. Good man John.

It'll be a good way for us to prepare for the Euro2012 finals, ie by watching England playing a football match in a nice new stadium.

    Fantastic Idea Mr. Delaney.
I take my hat off to you..

    then smother you with it

I don't know why everyone's is getting so hot under the collar. The Seatpan incident was over 13 years ago and this is a fantastic opportunity to see (and presumably cheer on?) many of our favourite club players in the flesh.

Yeah, right. There's nothing wrong with the idea but in reality the English have some of the worst fans in the world. We all wanna see Rooney & Co. in Landsdowne but even at the expense of the entire city getting trashed?

I like the English footie team, but their fans have a deservedly bad rep.

Nah it'll be great event. When the English fans see us cheering on Rooney and Gerrard and Terry and Walcott they'll know they have our respect as a country and the event will pass off without incident.

I also think we should start the game with 27mins on the clock and us 1-0 up. It's only fair cos apparently 'they owe us'.

The match in Belfast a few years ago passed off peacefully. Granted, if the English had decided to trash the stadium, few would have noticed.

The portion of English support that wrecked Landsowne would be less inclined to do the same at Windsor Park?

That said, I'd be in favour of another (more expertly policed) England game.

I'd love to see this match being played. I also think that the English fans have been a lot better in recent years, well IMO anyway. Better policing as mentioned already would make a big difference.

I also think we'd have a good chance against them. I do think this would also be a game where we wouldn't see so many players pulling out with little injuries either.

The media would be delighted, probably saying that it shows how 'we've matured as a nation', or how 'confident we are as a nation'.

But the dapper Delaney should have invited them over just before the demolition was to take place. Could have saved a few quid.

I think it's a good idea. If you decide against having it due to the chance of violence from an idiot minority then you let the idiots win.

Obviously security will need to be tighter than normal but I'm sure it can all be arranged.

    Let's see it happen.

Like those players would be relesed for a friendly. :pac:

There is no way in hell these scumbag english fans should be ever let near our stadium again.
The FAI are a disgrace once again to be even thinking of this. it would just cause unnecessary tension between supporters, and it would only take a few idiots from either side for trouble to kick off, whether inside or outside the stadium.
yes what happened was YEARS ago,but looking at the clips on youtube, brings back my hatred for those animals.
everywhere the english go,theres trouble.their chants and thuggery try to undermine other countries whenever they travel.
i just cant see any good from this, there are plenty of nations we could play in the new stadium, but the old enemy isnt one i would welcome with open arms.
ban all english fans from the game- then fair enough, but that wouldnt happen so, i stand by my opinion.

It's not like the Irish fans held a peaceful demonstration about their dislike of the English. Plenty of Irish scum went over to attack the English as well

And we can honour our tradition of respecting theirs by (due to popular demand) not playing it.

now im not gonna come on here and give every example i can find as to why these people are scum and shouldnt be let near our stadium...and i cant find many example of irish fans acting like thugs away from home but why oh why would anyone want to invite these over is beyond me.

1-0 and they broke the chairs for god sake!

It would be worse, with the "Skooligan" element we have seen creeping into the LoI in recent years out to "prove" themselves against their heros.

Some 15 or 16 year old little scrote will end up cut, or worse, dead.

    This shouldn't happen.

Another hapless occurence by J**n D*****y

Fairy nuff so, yiz want to put on yizzer Greenpeace tinted specs then you go right ahead, when the Dublin Riot 'RA Scummers cross paths with the traveling English yobbers I'm sure they'll all be 'mature' drinking buddies

Absolutely. We should reject the England team completely. Their fans are scum.

And as for the clubs they support week-in, week-out........oh.

Every club still has it's hooligan element, some more than others. If you cannot see this then you must be in denial, they are less passive agressive in their support than their oirish counterparts where a bit of verbal argy bargy down the local is as heated as it gets. The English do not behave well on their travels, how many f*cking news reports do you need to watch before you realize this.

They are not welcome anywhere in the world, except at D4 it would appear. The FAI get a lucrative opening game, and the cops and ambulance crew get to clean up the mess again. Way to go.

Slight exaggeration, no? They seem to be welcome here. And in a lot of other places England have played lately.

Also, if ever club has it's hooligan element, and England has it's hooligan element and should be bannedfrom playing away games, then how do you propose club teams travel?

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,751 ✭✭✭newballsplease

where did he say they should be banned???? some people here make no sense

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 27,252 ✭✭✭✭stovelid

The English are obviously unique to the extent that they export hooliganism. Good policing and proactive political (and FA) organization has largely nullified the threat in recent times. The gardai and FAI would obviously have to be the ball, and not do stuff like put a load of away fans (with a reputation for violence) in the upper tier of a rickety stand over home supporters, for a start.

I doubt the schooligans / Love Ulster riot types would be much of a threat tbh. Throwing bricks at a load of middle-aged unionists is an entirely different thing to taking on England away support.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,751 ✭✭✭newballsplease

as i said before, even the thought of this is just unnecessary worries for the public.. plenty of other countries out there to play.
not england, at least not when we really dont have to.

Ok ... The points were made that: 1) Teams with hooliganist elements should not be allowed travel; and 2) Every team has a hooligan element.

    Therefore...

Are you saying that English soccer fans don't have a reputation of being hooligans?

Why are you saying that, when they clearly. Clearly do.

The original quote, with the video, was "these people are scum and should not be allowed anywhere near our stadium" followed by "their reputation precedes them". 'Them' being a bunch of seven or eight scumbags in said video.

So, Des, when you say "English soccer fans" are you saing ALL; THE MAJORITY; SOME; or THOSE IN THE VIDEO?

Polish fans have as much of a reputation, where is the outcry at them playing on Wednesday?

they don't have any kind of historic rivalry with us, so the chances of it flaring up would be a lot smaller.

Dunno why everyone is giving out about the English hooligans, I'd be equally, if not more concerned, for our own Celtic shirt and tracksuit wearing contingent. I'd say there'd be a definite element of them there just looking for a fight if the game were to go ahead.

I'd like Ireland to play England, but i don't think it can happen here yet. maybe it would go smoother at a neutral venue, France or Scotland maybe..

Some people seem to be living in the past. Now forgive me if i'm wrong, but when was the last time there were serious problems at an English game? There were some minor issues at the last world cup but there were worse fans from other countries.

Even the Polish have a bit of a reputation for acting the bollox and they'll be here tomorrow night!

It's a sad state of affairs that these kinds of matches never happen because of what happened in the past.
