Hey, thinking of applying to do medicine next autumn in ucd and was just wondering what the course is like in terms of workload and what people are like as regard going out and having the craic and so on!?
Also, is the course very competitive?

Workload: Goes from zilch in premed up to dominating your entire life later on. Shorter hours than a lot of courses but you're expected to do a good bit of study.

People: There's 200 students in a year, you'll get a complete mix. Most people will be well up for an insane amount of nights out, especially in the early years. They become few and far between later on, but I guess that just makes you value them more.

Competitive: Depends on your attitude I guess. If you're interested in doing the course then you've probably been a high achiever up till now. In a class of 200 high achievers you may end up being very average - nothing wrong with that. There's plenty of opportunities to distinguish yourself if you're up for it (various competitions, scholarships, etc.) but most people just get on with it and try to come out with a good degree.
