(CNN) — A grand jury in south Texas indicted Vice President Dick Cheney and former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales on separate charges related to alleged prisoner abuse in federal detention centers, Willacy County District Attorney Juan Angel Guerra told CNN Tuesday.

"The Associated Press reported that the indictment stems from Cheney's investment in the Vanguard Group — an investment management company that reportedly has interests in the prison companies in charge of the detention centers. It also charges Gonzales halted an investigation into abuse at the detention centers while he was attorney general."

Doubt that anything will come of this. If it looked like it might result in a prosecution, GW Bush would give Cheney a presidential pardon before leaving office on 20 January 2009 (along with a pint to celebrate).

What do you think will happen?

you could be right in that nothing much will probably come of this, but it certainly is a start and some good news ... I hope they are not alone though

Won't be completed by then, there won't be anything to pardon.

My guess is that the lawyers are going to file for summary dismissal. With both Reps and Dems on the receiving end, it's going to take a pretty good case to hold water.

    NTM

Cheney should be at the Hague never mind a grand jury. Like most politicians IMO he loves money. Has anybody told him he cannot take it with him when he dies.

It can buy a better class of heaven, though.;)

They'll get a slap on the wrist. Which is nothing compared to what torture prisioners have endured.

The indictment will be thrown out as frivolous case. He was indicted by a District Atorney who is, to cut a long story short, going to be released in the new year. He didn't even show up at the first arraignment hearing.
