Poaching Munster players

Considering players like Tim Ryan and Billy Holland will be back playing with Cork Con in the AIL when the senior players arrive, I'm amazed none of the other provinces are trying to sign them, even on a short term deal. Connacht recently had a shortage of props while a 24 year old Ryan continues to plug away in the AIL. Munster have done well in poaching Dowling, Lewis and Ronan from Leinster (you can't have them back btw), Ulster have poached Willis from Leinster, Leinster have Fogarty, Hogan and Keogh from Munster.

Surely we need to open things up slightly more when it comes to problem positions like prop in Irish rugby?

They probably have contracts with Munster. They're just nowhere near the squad so they play AIL. (Not sure this is true - supposition)

Munster and Leinster in particular are known to hoard players - a lot of lads that are very unlikely to play are in the AIL on Leinster/Munster contracts.

Billy Holland is son of Munster Manager Jerry Holland and munster Young player of year last year. might be a bit hard to lure him away from Munster. Its very import all the provinces have younger players coming through so that when senior players retire there is someone to fill the gap.

How so? They Munster have released some players - Reddan, Prendergast, O'Connor, Fogarty, Staunton, Hickey, Keogh.....etc.....

Leinster offload a good few every year too. Will conceed that not enought inter provisional transferring is going on. With the likes of Bowe, Wilson, Best going abroad it was mind boggling why not try get a swap from other provinces.

They let plenty go, but they also keep plenty.

Take a guy like Simon Keogh who Leinster signed from Quins. He's a winger/scrum half, and has played maybe once or twice this season?

There are plenty of other lads like that. Absolutely true that the provinces release players too of course.

Fogarty came from Connacht last - he played over 100 games for Connacht after being signed from Munster. Jackman was also signed from Connacht. Munster also have Warwick from Connacht.
The Connacht shortage of props was for the last 10 minutes of one ECC game where two props had been injured - both were back for the ML game the following week. We don't have the money to have a large squad with back up props!

That's cos the IRFU gives Connact half the money the others get.

that's cos connacht have 7% of the rugby playing population in the country so are lucky the money isnt handed out by population and they arent or werent financially viable due to low receipts at connacht clubs

and im all for connacht, a classmate from school plays for them and ive jerseys etc

just pointing out that there is a rationale for the way the money is divided up, im glad to see connacht improving and maybe they can compete well with the other provinces (regularly) in the future

I know there's reasons and viable ones at that, but it goes against the spirit of fair play I suppose.
