Anyone know of any gyms around town that are open late? Like to 11? Myself and OH are looking to join a gym but we're both working odd hours and aren't finished until late in the evening (about nine).

Most gyms close at ten p.m. Not a hundred percent sure about that - but you might check the Gleneagle Hotel . I doubt that any gym stays open beyond that time.
Gym equipment at home might solve it.

Thanks man. I'll look into the gym in the Gleneagle.

Would love to have gym equipment but just don't have the space I am afraid :/

Glen gym is until 9. And 8 on Sundays. My brother goes.

Pretty sure the leisure centre on the Bypass is open till 10pm. Used to go there when I still lived at home. Really like it!

Luckily my workplace in Cork has a 24hr gym...so handy!

Has anybody else heard anything about this?

    Looking at whats planned;
Coffee shops; there's an O Briens and a Costa in the still half vacant outlet centre (5 minutes walk), there's marks and costa in the deerpark retail park, and then there's Killarney town.

Retail: There's the deerpark retail park on one end and the still half vacant outlet centre on the other, and Killarney town slightly further on from that.

Bars: Aren't there loads in Killarney anyway (10-15 minute walk)?

Conference centre: Killarney really does have a shortage of conference centres, there's only the INEC, The Europe and numerous others around the town.

No idea who is behind it but it's not the worst idea in the world - I think the land there was in Nama so I wouldn't be surprised if whoever was behind it managed to get the land cheap. I had expected that it would have been used for houses/apartments given how close to town it is, as there seems to be serious demand for places near/close to town the last while. At least with this there is the possibility of more jobs (especially compared to houses/apartments)

I could see a few of the hoteliers who have a chunk of the conference business not being wild about the extra competition but such is life.

Has that new Whiskey bar opened yet? I think its owned by the Celtic Whiskey shop in Dublin. Where in Killarney is it opening?

It is open, where Jades Bar used to be. Across the road from Subway.

Can't place it, don't know Killarney that well. We will find it, just wondered if they had opened.

Is it just a bar or do they have an off-licence section?

If you are going down New Street on the left hand side, it's a few doors down from the front entrance/exit into Tescos.

I'm nearly certain they have a shop from reading about it but I haven't been in.

There's a bar down the back, one near the door and one further back down. Have to say I wasn't blown away by the place when I went in there over the weekend, lacks a bit of character if I'm honest.
They're doing tasting classes during the day too, that'll probably be where they'll do well, especially the tourists.

What exactly does Killarney House have to offer. We'd usually go walking around Muckross, Torc or Ross Castle on a trip there. From the photo in the paper it just looks like one fairly flat garden with a load of footpaths!

There are some trees/bushes/shrubs/flowers further down but I think they are still working on that aspect of it in terms of planting/waiting for them to mature so it's a bit sparse looking as yet. Someone I was talking to who was there Sunday did say it would take a year or two for the trees and plants to mature and that it looked a bit new/not fully finished yet - I think the reason why it's only being open at weekends for the time being is that they are still planting stuff. There's also the Cherry Tree Walk. There is supposed to be a flat Plaza-y bit down the front of the house that's a bit weird according to a couple of people.

It links up to the rest of the National Park so you can walk down through the gardens down to Ross Castle through the Demesne. I think the big thing is the nearness which means tourists/people in town can easily pop into the grounds. I could see it being very popular on fine summer evenings (assuming it's open that late)

The next phase is the development of the house, so it will be interesting to see how that goes.

Tiger, the Danish retailer, are opening in the Outlet centre creating 8 jobs. End of this month opening according to Radio Kerry. They're kind of like an IKEA style pound shop selling lots of knick knacks for home/ gifts etc

Opposed to an empty retail unit? It's hardly tat either, seen quite a few people rave about the Tiger outlet in Cork.

No accounting for taste, I'd rather not see cheap jack foreign Rubbish or pound shops or junk tourist shops.

Not a very good impression of Killarney, bring in some quality for goodness sake, the reason we don't shop in Killarney is because we are always disappointed whenever we take the trouble to drive there.

Good grief no! I wouldn't want to, anything that is a cross between a pound shop and IKEA is to be avoided! And no I have never been to a pound shop or ikea.
