    Hopefully this will be resolved and soon.

    The building itself is a joke. Still, now that some planner thought it was a good idea to plonk some office block just where anyone coming from Kerry Airport into Killarney could look up to see the Reeks, I guess they should have left the centre there.

    I have to agree, the building it self should never have recieved planning permission, I would go as far to say it is an eyesore on the approach to Killarney, blocking such beautiful scenery, But alas i guess it will be a reminder of our Celtic Tiger days,
    As for the reasoning for closing down parts of the Medicial Centre, it really does not make any sense, Are they saying it is okay to have Retail Units and shopping villages outside of town, but it is not acceptable to have a Medical Centre that houses all the needs required for those seeking treatment.. and that includes parking..
    I feel they must have been a greater power working against the Centre for the appeal to be granted..
    I hope in time common sense will prevail.
    An Bord Pleanala cannot really believe that more office space is required in the present economic crisis..
    What now for the eyesore?

    Like most think it should never have been built day one.

    I did hear talk that there was political shenanigans behind some of this as certain parties werent happy with the doctors for choosing this development.

    The fact that NAMA was looking for insane increase in rents off the tenants compared to the previous deal they had with the developer combined with An Bord Pleanala's behaviour leads me to think there was some dirty pool going on.

    Stinks to high heaven.

    The planning process in the whole of County Kerry stinks to high heaven. Not to mind Killarney.

    There's a big drive to enforce urbanization upon what is essentially a rural county.

    The planning process, as per the Moriarty Tribunal Report (most costly tribunal in Ireland ever, "so far"), has indicated that the planning laws and regulations effectively enable the conduct of corrupt behaviour.

    It's time for a sea change in the planning process in Ireland, Kerry and Killarney.

    That building is a sick joke on the town. Sick to the point of intensive care with a bulldozer needed.

    There are a number of Auctioneers/Estate Agents (they go by other names too....:cool:) in Killarney and some of them have web-sites where properties that they manage or let are listed.

    I'm not sure if I can post the web sites here?

    Anyway, there is also the notice boards in some of the grocery shops where people advertise houseshares if that might be suitable to you, or you could put up your own advertisement.

    Also, if you drop into the Auctioneers/Estate Agents and discuss your requirements with them you might be able to get some details from them directly - or chance calling them if you are on the phone.

    Given the amount of emigration of (mostly our young vibrant and engergetic) people away from the countryside area around Killarney and Killarney itself during the past few years there is accomodation available. Also be aware that there is a lot of unlisted accomodation that might be rentable if you could make a deal with the owner.

    The Liebherr facilities are about 3 miles out from town centre proper. If you really wish to live close to Liebherr then Fossa is the place and there is a large housing estate there. I'm not sure if there are any flats in that housing estate.

    In Killarney there are a good few flats/apartment buildings in the town centre. Many are fairly modern and generally of reasonable good design but still fairly compact based on what I've experienced from visiting friends who live in them. You've then got to commute in and out from Liebherr - but it's only about 4 miles from the furthest away of those from the factories.

    I heard today that Argos and home base are to shut , my contact said home base and Argos are owned by same company and they have ðecided to shut 50 stores between Ireland and uk . And Killarney is one of them, did anybody els hear this.?

    Heard Argos was closing alright,havnt heard anything about Homebase, but its not surprising,2 good shops,a pity really:(

    not sure from your post but if you are going to work in liebherr they have an appartment block in fossa that they let out reasonably to employees, its only 1 mile or so from factory.

    Can anyone recommend a nice, decent hotel/resturante for a birthday Sunday lunch?

    The mothers 60th this weekend so we're gonna take her out for lunch, want the best! Been the Royal hotel before, very good but we'd like to try somewhere different but just as good for a change.. anyone got any good recommendations?

    Was in the Porterhouse last weekend, had a great meal. Not sure if they would be open for Sunday lunch though? The Brehon are doing a sunday lunch for 4 people special at the moment; something like choose a rack of lamb or beef and includes a bottle of wine, for 45 euro. The Malton or the Europe also do a great lunch..

    Ya I'd recommend it. It's not cheap. The fillet steak is amazing, costs about 26.60. Missus had the beef fajitas they were delicious also, huge portion!
    I'd avoid the chicken wings for the starter as they were sorry looking and hugely overpriced for 5 small wings!

    Try Sean Taffee. Never been but lv heard good things, they have a facebook & website page.

    Hey guys, anyone know where I would pick up about 30 feet of telephone cable with connecters already attached in town? The ones that argos and tesco sell seem to have the british connector on one end, instead of the modular connecter that we use here in Ireland.

    Did you try Homebase? MD O'Sheas would probably have them? Also, Kiely's Electrical up Quill's lane..
