My wife was working at weekend in evening and low and behold isn't there a huge dent in the wing of my car. Like someone had punched it or a fight and they went into my car. There's no scratches or broken paint. I'm let's say less than amused!! Anyone any ideas how to pop this dent out.

A good body shop should pop that out no problem!

The tidy town's people should be praised. They were out on Saturday morning and this morning. Well done to them.

I finished work this afternoon to find the ransom has been paid; Killarney has been freed up again from its' blockages and barricades; the filth has been cleared up and the noise pollution has left the town for another year.

& The Sun is Shining too!

    Happy Monday Everyone :)

my husband got the plunger and got a dent out in my car after someone hit my door in Dunnes! Hopefully that will do the trick for you!

Hey all, just a point i'd like to make regarding the Rally of the Lakes. The Rally of the Lakes had the potential to be something special (I stress using past tense here because I think its safe to say the damage is done). The work that has gone into making this event into what it is leaves me with nothing but admiration for the rally organisers. I think it is a credit to them that the rally, which started out from humble beginnings, has now received FIA accreditation and is now a feature on the international motorsport scene.

It is an absolute crying shame that all their hard work and perseverance is ruined by the behaviour of a minority of individuals. Over the past number of years, the may bank holiday weekend has become synonymous with a mass exodus of Killarney natives from both the town and the surrounding locale. The preparation that goes into the weekend on our part is reminiscent of a severe weather warning (bulk buying of provisions etc) just to avoid driving anywhere. It shouldn't be like this....

I think everyone remembers the HOG (Harley Owners Group) rally that came to the town a few years ago. The town came to a standstill for the bikers and it was an awesome sight to look down the likes of high street and see gleaming bike after bike after bike. or to watch the parade on the final day. The INEC grounds became a focal point not only for the bikers, but for the town itself for the entire weekend, and when people reminisce about the weekend they do so with pride, awe and a longing to see it back in Killarney again..

The Rally of the Lakes was a unique event from a spectators point of view. The event attracted state of the art machinery from the likes of Ford, Mitsubishi, Subaru and others. In the historics category there were many cult cars including the Toyota Twin Cam, the Ford Escort Mk2, the Porsche 911 and many more. The most awesome though were the slowly sideways group, who displayed legends such as the Lancia Stratos, the Ford RS200, and the game changing Audi Quattro. Looking at the following the event had in terms of more cars…..this weekend I saw the likes of Mitsubishi Evos, Nissan GTRs, Skylines, Supras, Porsches, Range Rovers the list goes on and on (and gets better and better!!).

We're all familiar with the likes of Top Gear and the Fast and the Furious film franchise. The Rally of the Lakes could have been huge, even bigger than HOG. A lot of the people who modify cars do so with a passion, and spend copious amounts of hard earned money modifying their cars to become unique. I don't think I'd be alone in saying i'd be curious to look at the cars.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, its a crying shame that the rally has such an antisocial following as it could have been a great weekend, looking at the cars (marvels of engineering), seeing some of the drivers (the likes of the great Eugene Donnelly), experiencing the hub of the Gleneagle it had (again using past tense) all the makings of a fantastic weekend.

Instead the rally has become a byword for antisocial behaviour. What could have been a great weekend for the town has turned into nothing more than a 3 day no go area for locals and tourists alike. Its a shame that a small few ruin it for the rest, as in fairness for every scumbag i've encountered during the rally i've met another 3/4 decent individuals.

Unfortunately the town does not benefit from the rally, the only people who benefit from it are the people directly involved in it. The hotels don't benefit, and nor do the pubs, restaurants, coffee shops and tourists attractions of the town. I think its safe to say the rally has run its course, and if cancelled next year few would lament its demise.

The programme to re-introduce white tailed eagles into Ireland after an absence of over 100 years has been given a huge boost with the birth of its first eaglets.

One was born in Mountshannon on Lough Derg in Co Clare, and the other in Killarney National Park, where the project began six years ago.
The re-introduction programme began in the summer of 2007 when 15 to 20 young eagles from Norway were released into Killarney National Park.

I think the Rally date should be changed as the may bank holiday would be busy enough without any major event.
Although it draws a serious amount of muppets i believe the overall publicity is well worth holding onto the event but more should be done to promote the positive aspects of the sport and maybe there should be more motorsport events held along with the rally.
Setting up a rally course at the racecourse and maybe designating a monitored area that boy racers could do burnouts and whatever else might be a option.

By closing off all the car parks and areas which are safe for them to do there antics it pushes them into dangerous locations.
The Lidl car park was in use a number of years ago which meant that it could be easily monitored by guards although i doubt lidl were too impressed with the damage to there tar.

    Hi,

Just back from Killarney for the weekend .

Shocked at the price of petrol there !!

On the way down , I filled up at Newcastle West at 152.8 ( petrol ) , the price in Killarney is 161 or 162 !!

    That's a huge difference.

I know before Tesco opened there was allegedly a ' cartel' where petrol was always more expensive in Killarney than anywhere else in Ireland , looks like those days have returned .

Anyway , town looking good , nice to see the bluebells and garlic in full bloom !

Loads of empty shops though ..........

Lets hope for a great season.

Its quite depressing alright especially when ya drive out of town and see how much cheaper you can get it.

Yeah, there is one place as you drive out towards the INEC that is always a bit cheaper and McCarthys by Fossa is cheaper as well, but the two Topaz stations and Tescos really take the piss. Its around ten cent cheaper in Tralee.

Yep, Tesco drove everyone out of business and them put up the prices and have kept them high. All other local stations are cheaper in Diesel.

Remember that every little helps :mad:

    Hi

    I don't accept that TBH

I can only think of 2 petrol stn's in Killarney that have stopped since Tesco moved in ( one opp the Cathedral , and one down near the riding stables on the Fossa Rd ) , maybe there were others.

There are still plenty of petrol stns in Killarney , and they are all very expensive, there was a time when the two down the Muckross Rd used to be a lot cheaper than Tesco's ( last year ) , indeed Billy Doyle ( Hickey's ) used to be the cheapest in town for quite a while... now it seems they all check each other's prices.

    Siblers, Ill be honest I didn't check Hegerty's ( sp ? ) .

How exactly can petrol be 10 c cheaper in Newcastle West ? , indeed I filled up this morning in Kildare at 155, which is 8c cheaper.

Remember that is PER LITRE !

Tesco have certainly had a change in policy regarding Petrol/Diesel, especially in Killarney (I cant comment on their other locations). Not only have Tesco changed from being the cheapest in town to being one of the more expensive ones but they have also cut the amount of clubcard points you earn at the pump. It used to be 1 point per €1 spent but now its 1 point per €2

With Bus Eireann on strike, does anyone know if there are private buses that run between Killarney and Tralee?

Hey folks, staying in Killarney sat night with herself, any recommendations on a good restaurant? Thanks.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,301 ✭✭✭madcabbage

Bricin Restaurant up on High Street, lovely food and not too pricey. Treyvauds, The Flesk and Milano's would be others.

Must admit I had forgotten about Randles , didn't know the others ,as a frequent visitor to Killarney over the last 25yrs rather than resident I bow to your memory.

Not sure if you are speaking about the weather or just a night out on the town in Killarney.

If it's the latter then Killarney is always a good night out!;)

    yep near marks

One in Tescos and one near M&S at the back of Tescos. You'd think they'd put one at Hegarty's there in the Park Road. The ones in town are very awkward to access if you're driving.
