If this thread was a few weeks ago you could have had a 05 Elise 111R for that price. It sold quick though.

Maybe and I guess some of these Subarus and Evos and Clio R6 and Focus RS and whatnot are probably nice to drive. But tbh I wouldn't want to be seen dead in something that looks like a skanger has won the lottery... Nothing wrong with a bit of class.

    No class in a 318.

The Lexus will have less power but Japanese reliability and like the 320i it will have a straight 6 and RWD, which are big plus points in my book. Dunno what they're like to drive but I'm sure that straight 6 is a very good engine, Toyota VVTi engines are usually very good though they need plenty of revs to deliver some performance. The Japanese reliability isn't to be dismissed either, it will probably be a more reliable car than the 320i(though the straight 6 BMWs are bulletproof usually, it's more the fact that some of the suspension components go on the 3 series that causes me to say the 320i is going to be less reliable).

Their sister car the Altezza tends to be associated with the skanger element though(FWIW the Altezza would have a fair bit more power but it is only a 4 cylinder engine), and it won't have the image or the nice interior of the BMW, but choosing a car on image or the badge is pretty lame IMHO.

I really don't know which would suit your cousin the best tbh, but the BMW does have a reputation for being better to drive and with more power is obviously faster.

AFAIK the IS200 had a V6, don't remember any straight 6 in them. They're 156-odd bhp and very thirsty by all accounts. The Altezza is a much better option, 4-pot engine but over 200bhp, and more economical on a regular run than the V6. Some skangers know what they're looking for, the rest just follow suit! In any case that's the new shape lexus, which is a diesel 220 in the add, the other option is a 2.5 petrol.
Lets call a spade a spade here. The OP's cousin is looking for a junior exec saloon / prestige badge. All those suggestions of Elise's, Celica's, B4's etc aren't what he's looking for, despite being great cars.
Options likely to keep the OP's cousin happy are BMW 3-series, Audi TT or A4, Lexus IS220d or 250, Merc CLK/C-class or Jaguar X-Type.

    IS200s are *definately* straight 6s.

See here. Lexus have only recently switched from straight 6s to V6s.

 look a little closer at the ad and the car. It's the new model so there was/is no IS200, ad says it's the IS220d.

    Yup, absolutely. I stand 100% corrected there:D:o:o.

I need to see an eye specialist:D!
