Hey, is it possible to become a structural surveyor without going to do an engineering degree? I remember talking to a guy who worked as an estate agent but he was doing some sort of exams over 2 years part time to become a structural surveyor. Anyone know anything about it?

    Cheers

Only a structural engineer can do a structural survey. A structural survey is primarily concerned with making sure the building doesn't fall down, although it will often refer to other matters.

However, you can become a building surveyor, with a slightly different emphasis. A building survey is concerned with the whole building - damp, heat, light, stairs, etc. and while it may comment on structural issues, only an engineer can give the final say.
