Em, drinking and leaving the place fairly quickly is the best advice :D

Ah no to be serious and I'm a bit bemused as to why no-one replied yet, there are a quite a few things to do and see around Mullingar/Westmeath.

For one you could go and view the breath-taking Belvedere house and gardens. http://www.belvedere-house.ie/

If you have never been to a distillery/brewery before, maybe a trip out to Locke's Distillery in Kilbeggan may be a nice excursion.

Fore Abbey is another a lovely place to visit. Been there a few times over the years at the Road Races before it got canceled.

As regard "active" outings, there's Pollard Karting and you can get stuck into a bit of petrol fulled high jinx.

Paintball then is another of the outdoors days you may like.

Any of the lakes in reasonable proximity to Mullingar are renowned for the natural aesthetic beauty. There's considerable history surrounding them with regard local legends. Turgesius/Lough Owel and The Children of Lir/Lough Derravaragh. Something to take in while your around perhaps.

Now I'm not big on what there is in and around Athlone, you've got Lough Ree and the shannon so you could rent a cruiser a head off for a different type journey altogether.

Greyhound stadium in Mullingar may be a decent alternative to a pub on a night out, plenty of excitement even if your not into the whole gambling/dog scene at all you can have a fantastic night.

In Mullingar there is plenty to do for a night out too. You could do no worse then to hit Danny Byrne's, Caffrey's and Canton Caseys for a few drinks and afterwards Mojos or The Fence (less teeny boppers here than in Mojos) is probably your next port of call for a "disco"

Much more information on the Westmeath tourism website and even wikipedia has a bit on it too. Google is your friend. Oh and if you don't already have a camera, go get one and come visit our fantastic little county.

Actually mods it may be no harm to sticky this thread and use it as a resource for people. I'm sure some of the regular and less regular Westmeath boardsies would stick up some more info over time.
