^ Any idea where it's based? Looks like it says Dublin on the side, but I'm not sure...

    Came across this on my travels today;

2012 Ford Taurus Police Interceptor, the replacement for the Crown Victoria Police Interceptor.

It would appear to be the US version of the Mondeo, similar size, similar shape, We know Ford make police specials, and they're seen as the best at it in the US. It'd be nice if they did the same in Europe, with the Mondeo, it'd basically be the same fit out with right hand drive.

That's not a police special, that's a standard mondeo, converted in Cavan, to be used as a police car.

Police specials, have uprated engines, suspension, and handling kits, better side impact protection, uprated electrical systems to handle the extra electronics, built in controls for all systems, all done by the manufacturer. all of which that Mondeo pictured doesn't have.

    To stick with thread rules:

Ah but it has lovely stickers. :D

Bar the built in electronics, wouldnt a sport version of the Mondeo be nearly the same as a Special, i.e. better engine, handling and suspension?

As permforum rules, the soon to be had new irish Coast Guard chopper:

SO close to a famous quote from the great Elwood Blues:
"It's got a cop motor, a 440 cubic-inch plant. It's got cop tyres, cop suspension, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas."

    Hi Guys

I just finished reading the John Stevens biography, and during his time as Chief Constable of Northumbria he ordered that all police vehicles be fitted with toughened glass, after a police officer was seriously injured when a brick was thrown throught the window of a squad car from an overpass. My question is, are Garda cars toughened or modified before they are sent out on the streets, or is still the case that family salon cars are just given lights and the Garda marking and sent on the streets?

Apologies for the picture quality, some phone pictures taken from a recent trip to London.

Boyne Fishermen's Jeep pulled up in front of me as I was walking along. Decided to get a few quick shots before it took off. Had a quick chat with the driver. Very pleasant guy :)

Are all Auxiliary NYPD cars black?

I wouldn't be too happy sticking out like that. Are the Aux boys even authorised to carry a firearm ? I know in Atlanta they aren't.

    And as for rules:

I believe the black NYPD cars are Traffic Police/"Corps".

I believe the black NYPD cars are Traffic Police/"Corps".

They're definitely older NYPD Auxiliary, it's there in black and white on the side of their cars, but like their NYPD colleagues, they perform traffic duties too. Newer units are white and blue, just like regular NYPD vehicles, though they'll be marked 'Auxiliary'. They're just like our Reserve: unarmed, unpaid.

Great photos. The guy in the white hat and blue shirt directing traffic is a traffic enforcement officer (quite different to the traffic corp which is more like their Highway Division; they're more like the Circulation division of the Prefecture de Police in Paris, just meter maids really ;)). You're right, they used to (still do?) drive black vehicles, but these too are being phased out and are being replaced by standard white and blue paint scheme.

Somewhere around Times Square. Could be for those new pedestrianised areas there but I'm not too sure.

The island is a car-free zone where the only vehicles allowed are horse-drawn vehicles, bicycles, tractors, and battery-powered buggies or motorised bicycles for elderly or disabled people.
