Airport Police are authorised officers of the Minister for Transport; and are employed by the Dublin Airport Authority directly. Completely different story/force to the Gardaí.

Until last year APFS (Airport Police and Fire) did the same jobs; i.e. Firefighting, ambulance and police on a rota; now I think they have been segregated more, but not completely (Alpha Papa, can you clarify?)

I'd say their training though more localised than the Gardaí and more specialised, would be very similar at the same time. All of them would likely have a good deal of airport knowledge as in Dublin at least 24 of the last 25 came from ASU (Airport Search Unit - the people who screen your bags etc).

    Hi Sdonn

Yes you our correct, The APFS spilt just over two years nearly now, into seperate service but still under umbrella organisation of the DAA. The last recruit class taken on was in 04/05 and was predominitly filled by members of the ASU. There is still an amount of rotaters left who work half their time in either police or the fire& rescue service.

The Airport Police Service has now aligned its training with the British Transport Police, alot of the current investment reflects this partnership i.e Ford Tourneo Connect (Prisioner Containment/Patrol Vehicles),Tactical Patrol Vests (HiViz), Tactical Uniform, Captor spray etc...

With the addition of T2 inculding a future metro station as new areas of responsiblity is increasing. As is this modern service and with closer co-operation now more then ever with the AGS incuding training and multi agency operations all bares well.

Now back to ES vehicles this is the tow truck used by the APS to tow illegally parked cars, impounded vehicles in contravention of the ABLs etc.. So watch its's about! :D
