I am deciding a build for a new computer and i want it to last a few years i.e. wont be upgrading it ! I want it to be able to play games like Crysis,Fallout 3 without any hassle  Ive come up with this build which i have taken some ideas off another build on this forum:

[EDIT] Have added fan to list and new PSU [EDIT]
    Qty Your Price Total

    330169 - Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz Socket LGA775, 8MB, BOXED w/fan

    387435 - Club3D Radeon HD 4870 1GB GDDR5 PCI-E, Overclocked Edition, DVI/VGA, HDCP, HDMI

    340678 - Corsair Powersupply 750W Black, ATX/EPS, 140mm Fan, 8xSATA, SLI

I havent included any fan yet as i dont know which one would suit this build best ???
Not to sure how good the motherboard is either .....Any suggestions ??

I think everything else looks ok but can you let me know if theres anything else i should include or modify . Im aiming for a budget thats no higher than 950e! Also is the q6600 the best quad i could get for the money as i want it to be able to last a few years ??Im not a pro when it comes to pc's so every bit of info would be a great help ! Thanks in advance :) P.S Anyone know how i can get the pictures of the products to come up ??

    Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz Socket LGA775, 8MB, BOXED w/fan

    Club3D Radeon HD 4870 1GB GDDR5 PCI-E, Overclocked Edition, DVI/VGA, HDCP, HDMI

    Corsair Powersupply 620W Black, ATX/EPS, 120mm Fan, 8xSATA, SLI, WxHxL 150x86x150

It's 95Wto 130W (depends on stepping) for the CPU and 174W for the video card under load, so I'd suggest a heavier PSU above 700W.

That heatsink/fan will fit, since it's a socket 775 processor and socket.

The DVD writer will work fine, that board still has a single IDE port.

Vista is a completely separate product and will need to be bought on it's own.

    Is this mainboard better ??

    354387-Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3, P45, Socket-775, ATX, 2xGbLAN, DDR2, 2xPCI-Ex(2.0)x16

So theres no mainboards or processors you can buy that would include vista ?

Everything else looks ok so ??

I'm not personally familiar with the P45 chipset based boards and can't advise on them.

Unless a retailer is doing a bundle of Vista with a board or CPU, which is very unlikely.

It's an ATX case and ATX board so they should fit fine.

One other comment about Vista is that you'll want the 64bit version since you've gone for 4 gigs of RAM.

It says on the mainboard for memory "4 memory ( 1.8 V )" does that mean that my 4gb 2.1v memory wouldnt be compatible ??

1.8V is the default, the BIOS will allow higher voltages, which you'll almost certainly need for stability.

I've not bothered with them since they don't take credit cards. Despite this others certainly seem happy with them.

I have changed some of the pc parts and have changed to Hardwareversand.de .
    HV20QX66DE - Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
    HV1128IGDE - Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P,p45,Socket-775, ATX,2xGbLAN, DDR2,ICH10R, PCI-Ex(2.0)x16
HV30SCYADE - Scythe Andy Samurai Master
    HV20CE86DE - 4096MB-KIT Corsair XMS2 PC8500
    HV203KA9DE - Antec Nine Hundred
    HVR570CTDE - Corsair TX750W 750 Watt
    HV1024DSDE - Club3D HD4870 Overclocked 1024MB
    HV13WC65DE - WD Caviar SE16 500GB SATA II 16MB
Im saving over 100euro by ordering with hardwareversand and the pc also comes assembled :) so it seems great value !
Ive changed the cpu fan and the ram ... i think there both compatible with everything else ??

Any other thoughts ?? Thanks again !

Personally i would get an e8500 it's a dual core 3.16Ghz for the same price. More recent revision of the core architecture and clock for clock faster than the quad higher FSB too more cache etc etc. IMO much more suited to gaming as nothing really takes advantage of quads yet. Except FSX afaik.

Otherwise smashing build whats the bottom line price on it?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 60 ✭✭frozenbullet

Thanks:) Ya ive seen lots of reviews on dual core vs quad core etc. Ill probably just stay with the quad as i heard that they'll be used more in gaming next year and the dual cores will become outdated ...
Have you ever used Hardwareversand.de before ???
The total including assembly and delivery etc. comes to 960euro.With Komplett it would come to over 1030euro and that wouldnt include assembly so hardwareversand seems to be better value.
Im still thinking about whether ill buy a dvd writer for my pc on hardwareversand and then theyll install it or take the dvd writer out of the pc i have now and put it into my new one when i get it ??
Not sure if i want to bother having to open up the pc when i get it and risk damaging it .Should i add a dvd writer to my list ??I'd be looking for a cheap one around 20 euro. What do you think ??
