NCT Due

Basically, the NCT on my '89 mini is up and after holding off on getting it done for as long as I could I finally got a letter telling me to book an appointment (like 6 months after it expired for some reason:confused:)

The car's not exactly in mint condition and I'm wondering what's likely to be a problem. For example my gearbox jumps out of second gear if you're not careful, is this grounds for failing or what? Also the driver's side window doesnt open. Is this a problem? I know I'll have to do a job on all the rusty bits but does anyone have advice as to other stuff I should look at

By the way I'd like to do as much of the work on the car myself because I'm pretty broke and its not really worth the money sending a car this old and dodgy to a garage

    Cheers

The window issue should be fairly straight foreword. Just a matter of removing the door card and replacing the window winding mechanism (easily got from a scrapyard cheaply). The rust and gearbox issues are another matter. The gearbox could be replaced with one from a scrappy, but the rust (and if there is holes), unless you're good with a welder, it would cost a good bit to get fixed most likely.
