Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi,
I've been thinking of doing a decent trip for years now and I am now considering doing a 3 to 4 week trip in Peru to take in the Inca Trail & Lake Titicaca and other interesting destinations like Lima and Cuzco. I'm a male and in my early thirties and I don't have much experience with travelling. I will probably be travelling on my own so I would like to join in on an organised guided tour. One that has caught my eye is the Peru Encompassed trip by Footprint Adventures. http://www.footprint-adventures.co.uk/peruenc1.html
or I think I would prefer this Peru & Bolivia Explorer trip http://www.footprint-adventures.co.uk/perubolivia.html

Does anyone have any experience of this trip and the travel company Footprint? Can anyone recommend a better trip?

    Thanks,

    Donie

I've no experience of doing guided tours but that region is very well travelled with backpackers and is very easy to get around on your own. The trick would probably be to avoid other Irish people.

Why not go it alone, you'll meet loads of people anyway and it's not that hard to do in that part of south America, its quite a well traveled road. You'll have to join a group to trek the Inca Trail in any case.

If you stay in hostels you'll meet loads and as mentioned the Inca trail will also give you the opportunity to meet others too as will the Salt Flats in Bolivia which I'd highly recommend. I went in july 07 and had the time of my life and am still in touch with people I met en route. Do it, you will not regret it and it really is so so doable and so so enjoyable!! I'd go again tomorrow.

you might think it a bit safer going with a guided tour but trust me don't. you'll be stuck with people of an older generation and beyond doing anything exciting. you could easily travel by yourself and ake friends and get recommendations about where to go by them. i just returned from an 8 week stint in South America so if you need some help give me a shout (PM or whatever). you'll be a better person for traveling by yourself. La Paz in Bolivia was my favourite city by far.
