Any ideas for New years eve in Limerick? - For my wife and her sister who will be visiting, both ladies are in their 40s, so they would not be interested in going to a night club or a late nite bar. As far as Im aware this would rule out most options on the night in question! Is all thats left going out for a meal and/or cinema?

invite a few friends over as well and stay at home, have a few drinks, good food etc. New Years Eve is way overrated IMO

New years eve isnt a great night out I agree with above, have your own gettogether at home.

Dolans is usually good if you want to head into town. Not sure whats happening this year though.

A hotel bar would be the best bet if you don't want to go clubbing.

There's a great 2 piece that play in the Greenhills some Saturday nights, 'Mike & Leonie' They play a lot of 60s and 70s music. As far as I know they are on on New Years eve, but check first

I think he meant that New Years is a rough night, rather than Dolan's is a rough pub.
That said, I was in Clem's a few weeks ago on a Monday night and there was some nasty stuff going on. The same crowd of trouble-makers could easily be found in that part of town on December 31st.

If you have to go out, go to somewhere like Tom Collins's or The White House. It's the right age group and they might have a man with a guitar on. Myles Breens usually has a good atmosphere but I find that the rugby crowd can get on my nerves after a while.

Otherwise, stay in and watch Jules Holland.

For years we used to go to our "go to couples" house on new years eve and every other year they would come to our house.

But "She"(other couple) went off a got pregnant now she wont be "able" to stay up after 9pm so we have not received any invitation.

Nothing to do this year so short of going to the in laws and having the fry up she makes every new years eve. Apparently its a family tradition.

I think a bottle of vodka and my OH's company will be enough.

The Marriott are having a Monte Carlo Casino Night with Champagne, 5 course meal and swing band on NYE!
    Sounds pretty cool.

    But the toilets do stink.

Looking through the posts the Monte Carlo night sounds wicked, otherwise get a couple of bottles of bubbly and a game of twister. Well maybe something a bit more inventive but a few friends around can be just as much fun as going out!

the Monte Carlo night sounds the most interesting so far. Will run it past she who must be obeyed!
An interesting one would be a showing of a film trilogy in the one go, eg LOTR (Lord of the Rings), but for that I reckon you would need a more upmarket cinema than we have here in Limerick, one with a bar etc....
or a ball, are there any balls on in Limerick on NYE (I can see all the bad jokes COMING now :D )
    cheers!

The best thing that can be done on new years eve is either have your own little party or go to a nice comfortable hotel that will server for hours and hours. the kilmurry are good for it usually
