€6000-7000 Car

I have € 6000 to spend on car for Mrs RG what can I expect in the present climate?

Tons, really. I've bought many cars for around €6,000 over the years, it always seemed to me to be just enough to hit the sweet spot in the used car market. And €6,000 today probably has the same buying power as did €9,000 last year. One caveat is that I like large-engined automatic saloons & estates - if you're into lunchboxes or coupes then your money doesn't go as far.

Anything would be considered with reliability being a key concern.

Hatchback in diesiel would be a preference, what would you get for that kind of money ?

you need to have a rough idea of what you want:

age: min / max
mileage: min/max
type of car: size/shape/engine size
badge: important or not

6k can buy you anything from a nearly new Korean supermini to two old Merc S-classes

of course, but prices are very low here at the moment so worth checking here first

I bet you could get this for less than 6k. For the money you won't find a better spec'd car

This is the best and safest car you can get for that money, and if you have any little ones they would have loads of space. Boot is huge! amazing value..

I had a Toledo before and loved it, but is that not too cheap

No I would jump at it, make sure its checked out and do all the cartell checking yourself. You will need to get a good mechanic to look at it or the AA. They have a very good rep for reliability.

Just noticed on the carzone ad theres no mention of service history, I would query that, you should factor in the cost of a new timing belt to your offer if he cannot produce SH.

I've always liked the Signum, it would be on my list of cars next year should I have to move to Dublin and be doing a lot of motorway driving.
