If you browse to http://mycit.ie you will see that CIT are using a
branded version of GMail to deliver an online CIT student email system.

Does anyone have experience in setting up something similar via Google Mail?

I'm using gmail to host my domain's email services, the transition was relatively easy but I'm using dreamhost who have a nice web interface which does most of the work.
Google give you plenty of instruction anyway on how to set it up, so even if you're with a host that doesn't natively support it you should have no trouble - and I'd *highly* recommend it.

Head to http://www.google.com/apps/intl/en/business/editions.html and click Get Started with the Standard Edition.

I use Google Apps for a few of my domains, unless you pay up you won't get a fully branded experience but it basically means you@yourdomain.com can leverage Gmail for your email facilities, as well as using Google Docs and a host of other Google Apps. I've used it for a couple of years now and it's great.

If your host doesn't provide an interface to set it up drop me a mail (my first name @ robburke.ie) and I'll give you a hand. Cheers!
