Sample PHP script to Extract,Insert and Display?

I am developing a club website and want to be able to design a solution to handle fixtures and results easily.

I want to be able to insert/update rows in a mysql database table to store the fixtures/results. Then I would like to extract a section of the table and display only that data in a section of the website. I want to display it in table format.

I have a bit of html coding expericnce and general coding experience so any decent explained expample would be fine and I should be able to figure it out from there.

hi mate,

i wrote a bit of php (as a hobby) for my rugby referee association, http://www.connachtreferee.com. Have a look at the fixtures section.

I have all the season's fixtures on it (but only show a week in advance), and then i update these weekly with the referee/TJ's/etc names. It also sends an SMS to the referee letting them know what game they have been selected for.
