All of Keats's poetry deals with the ideal; he makes death, works of art, pieces of literature sound idyllic and then contrasts them with the reality of his own life. IMHO though, reality often wins out. The life of the urn, romantic death and a solitary star may seem perfection but at the end of the day, he realises that life, with all of its tortures and imperfections, is reality. The alternative is frozen, unfeeling immortality. (It's a bit like the Truman Show really...)

The easiest approach to take is the poem-by-poem one. Clarify the title in your intro and refer to his own 'imperfect' existence, go on to discuss each poem, bearing the title in mind (i.e. how does this poem show the search for the perfect life) and in your conclusion, tie the whole thing together, showing how Keats's poetry is the product of a search for the perfect life.

    good luck!
