My father has a website for his business - he's a management consultant for a specific area of business. We've got him set up with a new site, but we now plan to start a blog, where he is going to write articles every week, hopefully attract subscribers etc and get traffic directed to his main site in the hope of getting new clients etc.

His current site is a .ie – I want to set up a separate site for this blog. I will either call it www.irishXXXblog.com or I could use www.XXXblog.ie

His clients are predominantly in Ireland but there are some in the UK. We are not seeking international clients but if they come to us then fantastic! It will be hosted with one of the main Irish hosts.

It easier for me to just get a .com I suppose. Does it matter, and if so, which one?
    Thanks

Well, as there is "Irish" in the domain name you might as well use .com as this is most common.

Or you could just subdomain it?

Personally I prefer .ie domains for Irish companies.

if its irish I'd go .ie ...

if there is a chance someone will register the .com as well and throw up a porn site ... I'd register the .com :D

.com will set you back 6 ? quid ? ... you can just redirect it to the .ie anyways and you're ensured brand protection to some degree there was a thread over on marketing or business about this thing the other day.

    Cheers guys

Sundomain is an interesting thought, is there any positive/negatives in setting up a new site rather than using a subdomain? Seo etc?
    Thanks

Setting up a new domain might work fine, but it can take a while for it to get reputation on Google et al, whereas a subdomain of an existing domain seems to get the main domain's reputation or at least some share of it (totally unscientific ...)
