You're training has been really solid; it'll show on Friday with a good time.

I hope to banish this run from my memory banks asap but i have a feeling that it will last a while.
A disaster is putting it mildly.
Set out to do 12 this afternoon, didnt happen,so had to go this evening
no biggy...not ideal though running after dinner ( 3 hours after ).Next problem was that i figured i had to get 12 in as the rest of the week is kind of semi taper for the race Friday night ( doing 12 after my dinner is new territory,i have often done 5/6 )
Set off anyway no problems, hit mile 2 and felt a bit quesy, shrugged it off and kept going,by mile 4 i was in the bushes, still got to mile 6 @ 7:15 pace, then into a garage for 10 mins.
Thought i was fine then, said i would tip home nice and handy, mile 8 in a field...mile 10 another field, and then barely got into the house on time.

I remember reading recently that the days leading up to a marathon, eating food that is not the norm for you is risky business.
Todays dinner was something new we tried.....good that it happened tonight and not October !

    A night to forget ! :(

But i got it done anyway...thank god for that

    GSK 5
Tough going tonight, really struggled for the middle 3m.....It was tougher than i remember from last year,
I set out with 3 objectives...break 30...did that, set a PB beating 29:33,could have done that only feeling sorry for myself when i was struggling....sub 29 was the holy grail...never threatened.
    Finished in 29:38 unofficial.

All in all,i am relatively happy....I need to keep getting under the 30 mins consistently and the rest will take care of itself

Met Showry again, doing his bit for the club, handing out the t-shirts and goody bag...top shirt btw...he was smiling after the race also after setting a PB for himself, loads of people set PB's tonight.
There was a time when i was setting PB's at most races...those days are slipping now and its getting increasingly harder for me....but shur we keep hammering away...
All roads lead to the Castle 5k next Sunday where i am guarenteed a PB as i have never raced a 5k :D

Well done Sosa...all pointing in the right direction for dcm, and it's not as if you trained for it! Roll on the 5k!

Great time tonite Sosa, I'd agree with ya, found the middle part of that race real tough going. Pity didn't get to meet up.

Didn't realise either, that it was Showry in hall at start, good to hear he got a good time too, think we were running together for a while.

Didn't realise it was going to me myself either, but my brother was organising so I lent a hand.

Great running as usual Sosa, well done. Tisnotover, I don't think we were together but I reckon I was closing you down at then end :)

This always happens sooner or later. When the PBs are harder to come by, it may be time to reevaluate how you train. At the start when PBs come all the time, it probably doesn't matter what training you do, running any old way will lead to improvements. But at this stage now, you might need to consider your training plan to make sure you get most bang for your training buck. The marathon will look after itself, but after that, when you set a shorter target, you might want to think carefully about what sessions to do, and when abd at what pace etc.

ah yeah ...it was always going to happen, you have to reach a plateau at some stage, thats not to say i wont set a PB at 5m over the summer :D

I would like to do some specific training for shorter distances when all this marathon stuff is out of the way.

Handy 10 this moning with Sungod and two other pals...no heroics after last night.
I felt surprisingly good and could have kept going but have a MP run on monday/tuesday as i cannot do it next weekend due to the castle 5k race, and saw no sense in doing 2/3m extra today. ...
    Its all go !

Week 3 down - 40.4m ...not great, mileage wise but the race interfered with that.
Happy with the way things are going ( so far )

Already this marathon planning is tough going...i suppose it is my own doing though.
The run today was scheduled for this coming Sunday but i have a 5k race, and i cannot do it next week as i am going on holidays next friday and i want to do a good tempo on the thurs before i head off.
So it was today or never and as this is an important one i went for it....
Now the weather didnt help initially,i stood at the front door for about 10 mins to see if there was a god up there at all,got fed up waiting so off i went....monsoon type rain again, floods of water enroute, but no heat to contend with so not as bad as it seemed before i left.
I set off a bit quick and reigned myself in for mile 3&4 before i had to start the 10 @ MP,it went better than expected and i am delighted to get this out of the way 6 days before my race.
    First 4m were @ 7:25p and the 1.3 recovery @ 7:53p
Hard to believe that i have now done 2 of the 4 MP runs in the program, now the next 2 are 16 w/12 @ 18 w/14...so they do get tougher
I'll get the miles in during the week, but all easy running.
It makes you appreciate the easy ones when you put in the effort on the others.

When you hit marathon taper period and have though few 20 milers behind your schedule calls for a 15 or 16 miler you will actually think .. "ah sure this will be fairly handy"

Well done on Fri but I don't want you breaking the 29 min barrier before me ;)

No fear there,Abhainn...That will more than likely have to wait until next year,i might only be doing 1 more 5m in August, and i might not even bother, depends on how the training is going.

Great running for the 10 @ 6:47 pace, how did it feel and did you bring any gels etc with you?

No,no gels,i rarely use them, dont want to get dependant on them.
If i was feeling tired before i left i would bring one just incase.

I felt good during the run,it was when i was doing the 1.3m recovery at the end that i got tired.
As it was a fast run,i didnt want to have the water belt on me,so i carried a bottle of high 5 with me for the first 3.5 or so,left it on a wall, and picked it up on my way back, worked out well,i had to go about 8m without any drink, but nice to get it with 3.5 to go.

Not ideal to run 10m the day after an MP run but wanted to get the bigger part of the mileage out of the way early this week, with Sunday in mind.
Felt really tired, not putting it completely down to yesterday,i went at lunch time and to be honest i like to eat at lunch time...not run,but anyway done and dusted !

Sosa, just wondering on a non-running related matter - how do you get the table to work in your boards posts? I have tried and it is always a messy mess!!!

Just quote my table, then delete all my info but do not delete the vertical bars.If you wanted to add another column copy a bar and paste it where you want it.
Thats how i did it,im sure there is a more technical way of doing it but i "borrowed" it from the road runner and fiddled around and added in my own stuff.

Then delete the quotes and also my name and that number that would be at the very start of the quote.

Hope i explained it ok for you.

Out the door at 6:45 today, thought i was off my head, but about 5/6 strides into it i realised that this is the right time to be running,no cars,people,noise...peaceful.
I took advantage of this,i ran on road nearly all the time, hardly anyone around.
Really happy with the pace also as i usually struggle to get going on the early morning runs, not so this morning.

Really up for this all week and gave it all i had to finish in 16:33,but the race was only 4.6k,at the last minute they had to cut it short for some unknown ridiculous reason,we knew at the line it was short but not 400m short.
Anyway i did it in 5:47p which would equate to 17:59 for 5k,and sub 18 was my goal so i would like to think that i had another 400m in me at the end if need be.
Race itself was tougher than expected,it was 3 laps, you had 3 tough enough climbs to contend with but went down them also, the best part was the 200m or so finish...flat as a pancake and dead straight with a nice finishing area right infront of the entrance into the castle.

If i was to be critical though the short distance pi$$ed me off,and we had to do 2 u-turns enroute which are a real momentum killer, before we took the left turn into the 200m finish we could have continued up for 200m and done another u-turn to come back down to make up the 400m.

Nice t-shirt/goody bag and bbq after which was nice but if its not 5k next year i will not be doing it and listening to a few of the prize winners they felt the same.

    13 weeks to go.
    45m this week,good week.

Pity about the course being short Sosa, have seen this happen before with new races.
Ure average pace is strong though+sub 18 was def on cards. Keep up good training, that was a good 45miles last week...
