To-ing and froing all day and witnessed Crough Patrick all snow covered with huge anvils behind it all day. Very beautiful sight and very alpine looking. A rare delight indeed!!!:)

Snowaddict, your location would be classed as south midlands due to the fact that Kilkenny is quite sheltered owing to surrounding hills and pleataus.

Wind has picked up a good bit here.

Hope that's the sign of some snow showers heading my way.

If only the winds would turn a bit more to the east, those showers which are developing quite nicely would come ashore....

Interesting ECM run tonight. While nothing spectacularly cold, it is notable for its lack of anything spectacularly mild:

A nice, quite frosty spell would be nice; hoping there is a trend emerging here. :)

Getting interesting folks, expect to see a decent amount of precipitation around towards 2/3am

    Harsh frost here.

    Trough feature moving into NI

This will enhance shower activity in the Irish sea and allow winds to veer East of North.

Im gonna be up for much of the night!:pac::D

I sure hope so, beacuse that earlier band of showers is dissipating and has moved towards Wales...

You could have a long night, especially if you are in or around Dublin! Bit of a breeze out there and it's cold but I don't think any trough will make its way through to us.

I'm expecting another cold, dry night. The kids are outside having a ball on their home-made ice slide so, all in all, an enjoyable period of weather despite the lack of snow!

Trough feature has intensified over NI and is moving south some bright echoes in it, probably rain along the north coast but would be interested to see whats happening now up there?

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,778 ✭✭✭✭ninebeanrows

Check out the Satellite, looks like it is heading southwestwards, probably missing Dublin if it were to make it but could hit us.. The winds swing northeasterly behind it.

Gonna be an interesting night guys.

    This is what Netweather precip-type shows it as;

So, it's southern edge is snow over Lough Neagh for some reason. When I play back the loop it was rain/sleet only so it seems to be turning more wintry as it moves further inland.

Strong winds on Thursday-Friday followed by another cold spell with wintry mixed potential ... keep your eyes on 12-13 Dec as we get closer, I predict there will be some kind of a major storm event, if it has to deal with cold air, could be very interesting.

Are we talking blizzards? Just maybe we are. The 528 dam will down over us.

Malin head; rain at 6c but much much colder further south(9c difference!) with Casement already at -3c. http://www.met.ie/latest/reports.asp

Yep, been watching it but odds are it will break up and dissipate before it reaches us just as other troughs have done.

I'd like to be wrong, and surprised, but...

Not a word mentioned on the 09:30 forecast either so if the Met Office aren't interested then I'm even more convinced it's a dry night ahead.

Well I am missing that heavier precip by about 20miles. Typical.
But it has been very light sleet mix on and off for the last 30mins.
I am sure it would be falling as snow further inland in the heavy stuff.

Yeah and here my ws temp readings are going up. It's at 1.9c here now. Has gone up about 0.5c in the past hour. This is the 'warmest' night here since thursday. Not cinvinced there'll be much in the way of snow or hail even if something kicks off. More likely rain.

That trough is growing on it's western flank and weakening on the eastern going by the updates on NW.

-0.2 in Colpe Cross just south of Drogheda, heavy frost on the ground.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,246 ✭✭✭rc28

Ok trough definitely dead on the eastern end but intense echoes further west.

Sure did. GFS has been suggesting this for a few days now and has not backed down from it.

Met Eireann were not too specific tonight, but they stated that there would be rain, sleet and snow in places.

I think that if you are inland, with some elevation and in either eastern or northern areas tomorrow night you could see some snowfall.

It appears that the precip out further west will be rain/sleet.

IMO, it may all just fall as sleety rain, but its definately one to be watched closely, considering its now only 24 hours away.

For tonight, I would be very surprised if we see snow in eastern areas.

I can imagine, several puddles and ponds remained frozen over all day today. Maybe not down in Waterford city, but I wouldn't be surprised if the local higher ground saw some snow before the precip turns to sleet and clears.
IMO, anywhere with elevation and in eastern areas, (Waterford being in the southeast), has a good chance.

The cold air has been around for a good few days now, and with and air temps so cold, along with the fact that the precip will arrive in eastern areas by nightfall, there is a good chance of some snow.

    One to watch. :)
