Set up Netgear Router WGR 614 with Lastmile

Am i missing something but i thought that setting up a router would be as easy as putting in the wan cable into the router from the lastmile modem and then from one ports into the computer??? I set up the last mile connection on the computer and put in the passwords etc and i am connected to the web, but now want to set up…
