Thinking about installing new window boards that will extend out futher so when the curtains are draw they will sit on top. So when the rads which are mainly under the window warm up will not put heat up into the curtain but instead into the room. Is this the best way or should it be left as is.

    Cheers

I would go ahead and fit the bigger boards like you said the curtains normally fall down over the radiators blocking the heat the bigger boards will deflect heat rising it would defiantly make things better

Bigger boards - worth a try.
Why not pushthe curtain onto the windowboard so its not hanging directly over the rad?
Lined curtains will help keep heat in , or metal washers stitched into bottom of curtain for weight, will hold it on existing windowboards.

When you remove the old boards - seal all draughts at cavity closer, along cill. Make as airtight as possible - see manufacturers info - Proclima, Moy or Siga.

Thanks lads, RKQ normally would pushed the curtains up onto the boards but herself has a little canary and straightens them back down:D
