    Shadow of the Colossus.

Because when a game makes you cry, makes you hate yourself, makes you curse your existence on its virtual plains, makes you question your very IDEALS -- then you know you've got something special.

Also, Street Fighter III: Third Strike, because it's just AWESOME.

Definitely, this is still the most recent game that really completely wowed me. Still waiting for something on that level this generation.

I don't think there's much point looking back a whole lot further either. Unfortunately the prevalance of emulators, backwards compatibility and downloadable remakes have done a lot to crush any high opinions I had of many older games once I see how badly they compare with average games these days.

Excellent choice, but I didn't like 3rd Strike all that much :/

3S is the final evolution of the SF universe/combat system.
It's provided amazing depth of play through its incredibly hardcore offensive & defensive options.
    And it's got Inspector Gadg... I mean Q :D

Actually, I wonder how the game would've been if:
    • Ryu, Ken & Akuma were not in it (no fireballs)
    • Chun Li's SA2 was toned down/given 1 stock.
    • Yun's SA3 was harder to combo with/charged slower.
    Would it be as beloved?

+ 1 to Streets of Rage, Metal Gear Solid and AOE II. But Crysis!! Awww now way. Great game but so ridiculously short. And multiplayer does not make up for it.

Only if you count emulation, and I'm not sure that's advanced enough...
